I know there is already a tattoo thread which someone started..but maybe we can keep them all together and show each other ours.

I got a dragon today...Its something I have wanted for ages, even though I have serveral tattoos already.

The shop just put this picture up on his site (and mailed me) I'm so happy with it and I want to show fellow forumites.

Please also post yours. Want to see more of yours please mr Pavey and I don't think you ever posted your Charles?

This was my last piece completed in November 2007

This piece was a cover up of an old tattoo I used to have which looked like this...

It's going on my left Calf & will be a copy of this...

The artist I've been consulting with is really eagre to do it she loves Anime Pieces & is going to finish the sword off properly as well as in the pic it ends abruptly.
I'm also thinking about getting some Kanji done down the Side of the pic as well.

Heh, my mum said the same thing - as well as "if you get lost they'll know where to send you". I actually live in Korea now, and before that I was in Manchester - it's just a semi-jokey tribute to where I grew up (Ely in Cambridgeshire).

Next one's going to be either Greek tragedy and comedy masks on my back, or a big stylised Palestinian Jesus with "he died for our sins" in Aramaic underneath.

I really like the bottom one - kind of reminds me of "Le Voyage Dans La Lune", and Moebius' work too. What's the inspiration behind it?

I got the idea from this album artwork:
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1294/1349125915_d2869f0294.jpg?v=0
I just looked up "Le Voyage Dans La Lune", I'd seen it before but wasn't sure what it was called. Thinking about it, that must have been the inspiration for the video for 'Tonight, tonight'.

What kind of ink is that? How long have you had them? The colours look really bright. I want to go for some colour one day, but I don't want fading. One of my mates got some done with what he calls "Japanese ink", and he reckons it doesn't fade...

jimmbob

All ink will fade. It's a myth, same as temporary tattoos.
A lot of people were conned (I suppose, see also, stupid) into getting temp tatts years ago.
I wonder if they're still waiting for the day they wake up to find it gone.

Worse than fade is bleed, where the lines go fluffy. Best way to avoid that, go to a good tattooist.

I had the ship done in November 07, and the other one done in March 08. Not sure what ink was used, but I went to see Steve Byrne up in Leeds for mine if that helps. They'd probably look brighter than that if I'd bothered to moisturise them when I took the photos, I have quite dry skin.

If anyone wants to help me, that would be great.

I'm holding off on the Koi until the summer.

I want to get a tattoo gun/machine done on my bicep, I kinda need to find it from a site where you can buy the design/stencil..but can't find anything I like. (Obv need to like it!)

Anyone seen any anywhere?

Thanks.

Personally i would find a tattoo artist to do the design for you. This way it will be personal to you and you can tell them exactly what you want. Get yourself some magazines and go on Myspace. Any good artist will generally have a waiting list and not just take walk in customers.

Yeah I'm surprised on the amount of fading there. Do you tan them or something?!

I went to see an artist today about my next tattoo, a sugar skull on my shoulder. Leah Moule (http://www.spearstudio.co.uk/leah.html).

Not going to be till september as she is pretty busy. It's going to have some small elements from Gradius (the game that is!). This will be the start of a sleeve which will be made from traditional elements.

Only problem i have is a tribal band that is in the way of progress. I've had it about 16 years so it's pretty dull, so i'm getting it removed. Laser removal is supposed to be far more painful than getting tattooed, so that should be fun.

cutmymilk
28-05-2009, 08:36 PM
Sucks about the tribal. Thats why I'm not getting more til I have a half sleeve sorted.

Dot-shading is a brilliant way to create depth and imply the illusion of fade. It works especially well in artwork with pens, though i have to admit i don't see it used often for tattoos... which is a shame considering the quality of Square's. Awesome mate, love it.

I just heard a tattooist compliment another chaps work, saying that his shading looks **** at the start, scratchy, but over time it blends and fades together and looks great

Not that I am saying yours looks **** at all, just dots and space, will blend together to make a blend?

It's just an art style - it won't blend together for a long, long time, if ever.

There's a show that's just started on the Freeview channel, Quest, called Tattoo Hunter. It's about a tattoo anthropologist who travels the world, observing different cultures and getting their cultural tattoos. Worth catching for some of the awesome tribal tattoos done by hand.

Hi Guys, looking for some more help for my tattoo now. I'm after a picture of a Japanese warrior i'm not sure what the proper name for them is but along the lines of like that Takezo Kensei armour from Heroes: http://www.bbc.co.uk/drama/heroes/season2/images/charbiog/takezo.jpg

which is the only picture I can find. If anyone can find/has a full body one with the similar style armour that would be wicked! Really hard to find the right look for the warrior underneath but have narrowed it down to that type of armour, again I'm not sure what the proper name is.

Some of my 8 up my arm (Warning elbow hurts a lot!). Still unfinished need to add the Japanese kanji for shinen 信念 and doryoku 努力, belief and effort and touch up the Stars sky effect and black hole as well as adding red and yellow the black hole. I got the idea for the stars from Maria Brink from In This Moment, thought it looked amazing with the gaps in the skin. Plus stars meanings for belief, hope etc.

If you really want one done somewhere, my personal advice would be to do it and take the pain (which isn't that bad on most places in body)

You will only experience that pain for a short time and you'll get what you wanted where you wanted.

See....I had my chest done when I was literally a kid and I passed out!

It hurt like crazy on the areas you said..collarbone and by nipple..

I've tried to convince myself that the elbow was worse so I can get the design I want on my other breastplate...(It isn't is it!)

Its a weird sensation on the elbow..the way it makes the bone shake and stuff, and coupled with the fact that it does hurt...

Super Grover

Depends where you get it/them. Inside areas hurt a lot and bone. The inside of my arm was agony and also the joint inside. The elbow was also like hell on earth after 4 hours. I was sweating from all parts of my body. Other parts of my arm did not hurt very much. For me personally the shading of the colour tattoos with about 14 needles in one is painful too. They keep going over the same bit. All black tattoos were fine.

I asked my tattooist here in Japan what are the most painful parts they said neck, ribs, bone, elbow, leg or foot. So unless you`re prepared for pain maybe try to avoid those areas. But each person is different.

My next tattoo is going to be on my leg, then my next work is going to be turning my bottom arms into sleeves/more complete with stars and bigger spaces I am having Nautical stars to tie it all in.

Cash is the problem at the moment tho..them 2 were already booked in and paid for.

My electricity bill was way higher than expected, so bit skint this week and need Galaxy on Friday, although that is coming at a bad time with the World Cup as I generally watch every single game..

Started my other arm yesterday.

It will be a mix of geometric shapes and islamic style patterns done in dotwork. Same as my other arm there a few old tats that will be worked around, altered and blacked out!! The whole thing is hand poked with a machine only being used for any large black fill bits. It's a fair bit slower this way (this little bit took four hours) but certainly no more painfull.

I've only got one at the moment. Planning on getting at least one other on my other calf.

I'm what you might call a MASSIVE anime fan, I have been for years and years, about 15 or so, not bad as I'm only 29. Ninja Scroll was the anime that got me into it so thats the first one I got.

I went on a manga tour in Japan back in '06 and a guy who went on it too had the same, but he spent £30 on his and looked like he spent about £5.

I made sure a had the exact image I wanted, its the cover art off the tv series first dvd (even though I don't like the tv series, the cover art was pretty cool). But I had a play in photoshop and got it to more of a minamal grayscale with no background look I wanted, then found a good tattoo shop which is called Logans Cave. It cost about £160 and was one 2 hour sitting. Its about 2 years old now and still looks perfect.

Great stuff there mate.
It really pays to do your homework with Tattoo's
You'll be amazed by the amount of sh*t work I see round here where people dont bother & just get a flash done off the wall of the shop.

Thats a pretty good price as well
Custom work down here is £60-£70 an hour

Got my eye on a couple of designs but trying to decide what I want but current quotes for the work are in the £300-£400 region so still saving at the mo.

They drink and smoke while tattooing you and make there own needles which should be a massive no no unless you are traditional tattoos.

I work with a guy who had a sort of tiger on his sholder, the scaring is terrible. He dosen't know any better, he thinks it's good that he can rub his hand over it and still feel all the lines the did 5 years after it was done.

Sounds pretty much exactly like round here.
It's the teenage mums & chavs that frequent our dive.

They havent quite go onto the sports brands round here yet but our local male chavs are currently going through the Tattoos on the side of the neck phase.
They all look awful.

That's part of my thing as well I love tattoo's & want lots lots more but I also like them to be able to be hidden.
I love showing them off & do whenever I can but I also appreciate that working in an office environment means that they aren't always to everyone's taste & may not project the image the company wants, so I'm only going for half sleeve designs so that with a short sleeve shirt or T-shirt on they are still mostly out of eyesight.

Which is why neck & face one's just scream unemployable to me.

Shins are a doddle, calves are a bit harder, and ankles can hurt like buggery. But it's different for everyone really. In all the years i've been getting tattooed, only my right ankle caused me any real discomfort.

Colin
14-09-2010, 04:04 PM
I think it's psychological, the noise of the needle rattling on your bone can mess with your mind. I'm not saying this in a "i'm tougher than you" way, but I thought the elbows were a piece of cake. Like I said earlier, it's different for everyone. My ex didn't bat an eyelid when she had her ankles done, and I thought they were a bugger...........

ShadowDancer
14-09-2010, 04:08 PM
I agree with that Ikobo. It wasn't pleasant, but, It does mess a bit with your mind, the noise and all...it wasn't agony. My worst was across my colar bone, when I had something done when I was young. My right shin hurt a bit - that's why I asked how you felt..as I only had it done recently.

I'm yet to have a tattoo and think, no more - too much pain.

As you say, and its so true, everyone differs.

Been thinking recently of taking the plunge and getting my first tattoo.

Thinking of this:

厄払い

Which says "Yakuharai" which can be translated as: good riddance / exorcism / cleansing from evil. Unless I'm mistaken. Any Japanese readers want to clarify for me?

Thinking of getting it done on my left inside forearm so that if I ever feel down about what has happened recently I can look down and remember that I'm better of now than I was before.

i'm currently working through ideas of what I'd like my sleeve to be like, I'm loving the biomech, but for some reason I keep coming back to images of Colossus, I love the idea of my arm basically being like colossus' still not 100% as I think there needs to be more in the way of muscle striation to make it a bit more involved, the hand of the last picture is is what i'm getting at mixed in with the sculpturing on the forearm of the first picture... still maybe when I finally get upto the tattoist and see what he thinks we can work something out.. he's big into biomech and loves H. R. Giger, so I know it will be the business... also The Guyver keeps cropping up but i'm struggling on getting detailed images at the moment..

Thanks man...I'm so chuffed with it, still pretty tender today & tight around the calf, if I sit for too long it tightens right up & I hobble round the flat like a spoon till it eases up again lol

My artist is called Anthony Cole & is based in a shop in Benfleet near me called Exile Tattoo.
He's doing really well for someone who has only been doing it for about 3 years!!!

No website I'm afraid by they are on Facebook...

I don't do Facebook so can't view it myself but the missus does & says it shows all the work by the 2 Artists (Anthony & Will) there is some work on there by another guy called Aaron but he's the shop apprentice.

They are all really good guys & if you local then I can't recommend them enough cheaper than most at ?65 an hour as well...my previous artist at Silver Needles in Southend have just upped their prices to ?80 an hour & was one of the reasons I looked elsewhere & I'm SO glad I did :)
