Gamer. The new movie by Neveldine/Taylor from Crank+Crank 2 fame.

This is gonna be really cool (kinda like a modern The Running Man premise.)

Written/Directed/Created by Neveldine/Taylor comes Gamer, out September 9th but they have just released trailer for it and site.
    Trailer is at..

They actually made this before Crank 2 and took a year for effects and edits.
Remember hearing about it in Empire or Total Film and thinking it's Gerard Butler, Online Gaming, Guns and from the Crank guys this is gonna be cool, although now that the press is out and the trailer, it's just

Story blurb taken direct from site.

GAMER is a high-concept action thriller set in the near future, a time when mind-control technology has taken society by storm. Humans control other humans in a mass-scale, multiplayer online game. Reclusive billionaire Ken Castle (Michael C. Hall) has created the controversial form of entertainment, "Slayers," a hugely popular game that allows millions to act out their innermost desires and fantasies - online - in front of a global audience. Gaming has evolved into a terrifying new dimension...mind control...manipulation...people playing people!

At the center is Kable (300's Gerard Butler), the superstar and cult hero of "Slayers," the savage, ultraviolent first person shooter game. Kable is controlled by Simon, a young gamer with rock star status who continues to defy all odds by guiding Kable to victory each week. Taken from his family, imprisoned and forced to fight against his will, the modern day gladiator must survive long enough to escape the game to free his family, regain his identity and to save mankind from Castle's ruthless technology.

I saw this yesterday and thought it looked pretty interesting. Butler and Hall at least give it some weight, though let's face it...it'll probably be ****.

Look forward to Gamer: The Game though.

There was a film like this 2-3 years ago. Can't remember the name off hand but it had Malcolm (in the middle) in it.

That would be the awful Stay Alive.

EDIT - Just watched the trailer and this looks just as bad as Stay Alive.

Haven't seen the trailer but Crank 2 was pretty much a videogame movie anyway. Loads of neat little features in that film for gaming geeks!

                  Gamer - The Movie

Just stumbled across this, didnt see any posts about it.

Guess its either going to be awsome or complete fail. Looks like CoD in RL lol!

Looks alot like a rehash of Running Man.

Looks like it could be fun, especialy if you like seeing stuff blown up. Gerrard Butler is pretty much always good and its nice to see him in somthing that isnt a romantic comedy as thats all he has seemed to be in latley, oh and Rock n Rolla, but that was a bit crap too.

Plus it has Dexter in it...

I think its just called Gamer though, not Gamer: the Movie.

You die in the game, you die for real!

I've not a huge amount of hope for it, would be nice if they captured The Running Man's spirit. I miss sleazy 70's/80's scifi action, it's all too 'pg13-ised' now.

no one seemed enthusiastic when i posted about it in may, doubt much has changed.
still think it will be cool.

Anyone know if this is playing anywhere in London on Friday night, can't seem to find it listed...

not that I'm interested in seeing it you understand, I only ask for a friend...

No sir, I'll be off down the BFI for their Ingmar Bergman all-nighter

When I read the first post detailing the story, I had a vision of what the film could be like. I imagined it would be like the Running Man, with lots of neon, over the top characters, and just a fun 80s-esque experience.

Then I watched the trailer. ... It looks like garbage. Cheap, bleak, and not fun at all. In fact, the whole vibe is like a dodgy Outer Limits episode. What a shame.
