Playing through this just now and while it can be fun in moderation it isn't a patch on Dante's Inferno/Ninja Gaiden 2. The main annoyance for me is that every boss seems to have about 5 energy bars. That's a real irk for me in games. What on earth is the point of an energy bar that just fills up everytime you deplete it. Does my head right in.

^I'm beginning to understand that sensation now. Vanquished that "Sorceress Queen" character in the early hours, caused a fair bit of frustration - it was mainly the QTEs that got me a bit enraged. One thing I like, though, is that in the multi-stage boss battles, there are checkpoints inbetween each stage (well, there have been so far).

Hopefully gonna have this finished tonight, though am already getting stressed about that final boss due to all the negative comments on here(!)

I really liked this game as well, but the last boss was a "destroy your controller in an uncontrollable fit of rage"-bastard. My wife actually came downstairs and told me to stop screaming at the TV because I kept waking the children up

^Nah, they're not - did Bone Cleaver on my first attempt, ran round the back of him and unleashed strong attack combos, bugger went down in no time!! I've been constantly upgrading my moves and 'mastering' my combos, and I think the difficulty level is pretty nicely pitched.

I don't know why people are saying it's so tough, I sailed through the first few hours, hardest bit I've been on so far is that multi-part epic dragon boss (yeah, died eight or nine times on that, but was pretty easy when I'd worked out what to do).

Worst enemies are those bastard lions with the Chun Li scratch attacks, "You scratch like children!"

    Nice boss characters!

They're all complete and utter bastards.

Clocked Arkham Asylum last night, fancied something a bit less complex and as I've had this game sitting around for six months, decided to play through it 'properly' on 360 today.

The first level of this game is really underwhelming, you're basically in a dark passageway fighting ghosts (very boring) and the first thing you'll think is that it looks absolutely shocking compared to God Of War. If this level was on the demo, I can imagine why it didn't sell very well.

Anyway, once you conquer that (very easy) level, the next level chucks you outside into a sun-drenched forest, where you hack away at human enemies with satisfyingly bloody results! You can chop heads off, arms off, slice peeps "in twain", disembowel opponents, rip their hearts out etc. (plus you get a neat piledriver move with lets you explode your opponents' heads into the ground!), and the combat is lots of fun with a nice, easy to understand upgrade system with oodles of new moves to master. Not only that, it's a breeze to learn moves, swap weapons, and once you've mastered parrying, the game gets a whole lot more fun to play.

There's 'nuff criticism of the voice acting, but its woodenness adds to the game's pulp charm. A great plus for the game is the length of the cutscenes, they're short enough to tolerate yet just long enough to keep you in touch with the (simple) storyline. Yes, play it with the voiceover turned ON, Conan is a truly sexist monotone bast!

The graphics - whilst initially seeming shabby and underwhelming - actually improve a hell of a lot as the game goes on, with a nice solidity to the environs, a savage-looking Conan and some nice boss characters reminiscent of Golden Axe (Bone Cleaver is the spit of the hammer fatties from GA). The overall atmosphere of haze and sun really adds atmosphere, and like someone else mentioned, there is a hint of Prince Of Persia to the overall 'look' of the game, though this game is a lot more smoothed-out than the slightly grainier effect of POP.

Totally enjoying this game, well worth the £4 I paid for it. Three of my mates got the PS3 version for £1.99 a few months back, when Zavvi/Head was shutting down, none of them had a bad word to say about it.

    Fun, fun, fun.

    Major bumpage time.

Shot in the dark but YouTube and GameFAQS have been of little help. I've just wasted the last 2 hours on the first stage of the Bone Cleaver boss fight. Anyone remember any tactics to beat this bastard?

I've tried rolling around, stabbing when I get the chance, which does very little damage to him, and also throwing axes at him from afar. Nothing seems to work.

Honestly, if I see the "Death is cheap in Hyboria" game over screen one more time, then to Hell with it.

    EDIT:

And he's done. Never been so happy to see an achievenment unlocked. Took me the best part of the afternoon, mind.

Well I just finished this on the hardest difficulty and have to say I really enjoyed playing it. The art style is clearly inspired by legendary Conan artist Frank (sometimes referred to as Franz) Frazetta and suits the game beautifully.

Yes it's kind of God of War lite, but apart from a few minor niggles it does what it does very well.

How can you not like a game where the maidens you rescue say such things as:
    • Where are my clothes?
    • How can I repay you?
    • I didn't know my savior would be ... so big!
I give this game a five feta with olives rating!

The copy I have says something like that. I tried to oblige but there didn't seem to be a button for it.
