    The Good Life [PS4/XB1/PC/NSW]

Swery's latest via White Owls - originally looking for funding through Fig in 2017, and a year later instead via Kickstarter, releasing 2 years later than originally planned, and directly on to Game Pass. Ho hum.

Couple of hours spent on this so far and having followed all of the updates for the past few years, it's... pretty much exactly what I expected? It's set in a rural English village, with a clearly well-intentioned appreciation for the setting. You will hear British accents, the pub will serve you toad in the hole, and you will hear someone say "collywobbles" out loud in the first hour.

Straight from the off there's a load of different ideas and systems that present themselves - locals all move about in line with a full day and night cycle, as a photographer by trade you need to make money by snapping things for social media, there's gardening and cooking to consider, different gauges for your health, hunger, tiredness, and other things I've not even figured out yet, the option to shower and keep up a beauty regime, and then there's the whole turning into a cat/dog. I am certain there are more weird and disparate systems to come, and as ever what's lost from some (very) rough edges is attempted to be clawed back in the sheer volume of ideas and charm.

Despite simple looks it would also be negligent not to mention I've also experienced some weird, annoying flickering that is pretty persistent. I took a short clip of it which is here, and is not even the worst example I've had. I would like to see this addressed in a patch, but we'll see.

I've not made it to the bigger plot points opening up yet (the trailer above gives you an idea of where these are going), but I'm hoping this isn't too far off and that it gets some hooks into me. While I expected a fair degree of jank, there's just a bit too much to sell me on it being an idyllic getaway just yet.
