The point is that this game was originally a 'very big thing' for Nintendo - I can actually remember the day that SF2 was released over here, going into my local EB and the woman behind the counter having plasters on her thumbs from playing the game the night before.
If the Virtual Console is about celebrating the heritage of Nintendo consoles then Streetfighter 2 is one of the games which is a must have for everyone, even in the PAL state that we have here.

I meant being released unoptimised. Surely if you purchase this you have to be a spacker of sorts?
I was a living legend at 12 because of SFC SF2. Kids would come from miles around to pay me their 50p's and play as much as they wanted or until they had to go home for their dinners. I earnt far more than the £100 it cost me to buy the game. I actually remember the day that SF2 was released over here, going into my local game store and laughing at people paying £64.99 for it seeing as it was hugely slow, when I had had it for almost 18 months already and was looking forward to SF2 Turbo being released in a few months.

SFII got the ball rolling for the SNES/SFC (in the West, anyway) - arguably the machine's first "killer app" for the simple fact that people were buying SNES/SFCs to play the all conquering coin-op smash hit (and genre-defining beat-em-up) in the home.
Back then, you couldn't get a PAL SNES SFII Action Pack for love nor money - I had to settle for a Super Scope 6 Pack and was a little gutted until I had a copy of SFII delivered to my door c/o the parents!!

I wish it weren't the case.... but I don't have happy memories of PAL SF2. I just remember thinking how crappy the PAL SNES was compared to NTSC as a result of this game. Terrible really, but that was how I felt. I loved SF2 that much at the time.
This release is a reminder of what I consider to be a classic bit of Nintendo Euro-disregard.
It really isn't very good at 50Hz when compared to 60Hz. Some games get away with it, but this one didn't - the 17% slower and borders were noticable. Secret of Mana was an example of how to optimise for the PAL market, I wish they had done it for everything.Last edited by zipper; 19-01-2007, 21:53.

It's a shame all the 50Hz talk is overshadowing was is still an excellent game. Sadly it was like that at the time I remember. Importing had never occured to many of my friends but this game was the reason several of them stumped up ?200 for a 14" Sony Trinitron and got a Japanese Super Famicom hooked up over Scart.
All this stuff aside I have fond memories of practicing my street fighting skills for the weekend when I'd be able to take it to the local arcade and attempt to whoop some ass! I think in the end I got too familar with the D-pad however so I was useless at pulling off moves with the stick!! Oh well

Absolutely, it's possibly one of the greatest and most important games in Nintendo / Capcom (and my) history. A complete revolution.
I've actually just aquired Anniversary Edition from a forum member to check out 3rd Strike and relive SF a bit. When I think I got this for just a couple of quid more than Nintendo are asking for this PAL download, it kind of puts this VC title into perspective for me.

I've never understood how Nintendo manage to piss on their fans some way each generation and have them lap it up for nostalgias sake. The fact that these consoles have us forking out for retro roms is bad enough but releasing those awful Pal conversions again is unbelieveable! There are so many better ways to play a better SFII, he's right, you're a moron if you downloaded the Pal VC version of this and NOE are laughing at you.

There is also no way he would have had it for 18 months before the PAL launch date. Yes there was a delay of a fair few months but nowhere near 18 months.
I think the JPN version came out in summer of 1992 with the PAL version being October of that year.
His points about the PAL version being poor stand though.
