Could not disagree more. There is no other videogame mag or site that comes close to Edge. Whether you agree with their scores or not, it is by far the most intelligent, grown-up and competently written journalism out there.

Whether that's saying a lot...who knows. The competition (GamesTM, IGN, Gamespot etc) is so dire it's embarrasing.

I've bought Edge since issue one but gave away a lot of my old collection due to space requirements. Having bought the File issues earlier in the year, I was surprised how much less competent Edge's writing style was back then. It's far more basic and much more reliant on tech specs and polygon counts than actual talk about gameplay. Arguably it was more enthusiastic, but that's probably because it was not able to articulate its criticism as well.

The main criticism I can lay at Edge's doorstep today is that sometimes they get caught up in fluff pieces that have no real substance. The most recent example was the PS3 article that said the 360 was a part of the cycle of the last generation, but the Wii and PS3 were a part of a new cycle due to their 'potential'. The Wii I can understand, but the PS3? This isn't Sony bashing, but wtf were they on about? Unsurprisingly they had nothing to back it up.

They've done this before in stuff like the Time Extend features and some reviews. They had got better, but the Mass Effect review does have a whiff of that (criticism without the substance - see my post above) and that's not because I love Mass Effect. I'm also really enjoying Assassin's Creed but I can appreciate their review 100%.

I agree still the best mag out there....aside from Retrogamer which is just fab and (thankfully) trying something completely different to Edge

Retrogamer is by far the best mag each month , its in a class of it own .

But to people slaging off EDGE, I still think its a great read now and again , and the internet as large part to play in killing off most mags these day's.

What killed EDGE is SEGA leaving the Hardware game , its never been the same since

Edge = Iron Maiden & KISS

You start to appreciate how good the older stuff was when you can retrospectively apply it to the here & now stuff.

            I'm full of **** - byebye

I rate IGN far above Edge. Bizarre but there you have it. At least they cover games with enthusiasm and depth, and their scores actually make more sense than Edge's do these days. Go and read the IGN review of Mass Effect then read Edge's ridiculous attempt.

Did you read Edge's 'article' on SF3 recently? It really sums Edge up perfectly. Pompous, up it's own backside, utterly irrelevant and meaningless drivel.

lol I think that?s actually one of the nicer things you?ve had to say about Edge

We?re plainly not going to agree on this, so for arguments sake we?ll just say I?m right and you?re wrong, the end

Serious question; does this month's Edge have one of those wall planner things? If so, I'll pick it up. I like those.

                    Or perhaps not.

Can't say for sure, but I'm pretty certain it's been the January issue for the last two years running.

I didn't get anything matching that description with my subs copy

Eh? Subs copy of which issue? E184 (i.e. the issue that's released next Thursday)?

Are you talking about Street Fighter 3? Just wondering, because if they did a feature on it I'd be keen to read it.

That's strange, all I got from it was excitment and a desire to play the game.

You're really looking for something that is'nt there. Get a grip.
