Mods, not sure if this is the right place so feel free to move it.
A friend of mine is on the last year of her degree and she has two essays to write. One of which is on the Wii Operations Manual and how effective it is in teaching users about the product.
What she's looking for, are opinions on how useful the manual was for users new to the product, in particular how effective the various graphics featured in the guide were in teaching users about the product.
Now I realise most of us on here lean towards the hardcore and probably ignored the manuals in favour of hurling controllers through TVs as soon as possible
But if anyone has any opinions on the guide or has experience of seeing people new to gaming (young kids for instance) attempting to tackle the Wii and it's manuals for the first time their feedback would be much appreciated.
I'm not after huge paragraphs of text, just soundbites she can quote in the piece.
Did you refer to the guide at all?
If not. Why not?
If so. What particular sections were you interested in?
Was there a specific issue that you had to refer to the manual for?
Were the graphics featured useful in resolving your issues?
Did you require guidance on the use of the Wii Remote and Nunchuck?
If so. Did the manual provide sufficient directions on their use?
On the whole how useful was the guide in teaching you about the product?
Below is a link to the Wii Operations Manual if anyone wants to refresh their memory.
Personally, I only briefly referred to the manual whilst setting up the machine. Namely to reference the diagrams for details on the correct placement of the sensor bar, for which purpose they were perfectly adequet. As for directions on the use of the controllers, I'd built up a fairly accurate idea on how to use them from the various media prior to my purchase of the machine and so didn't feel instructions were necessary. On the whole it was a useful reference guide, but as an existing gamer I could probably learn about the machine without it.
Again, any help would be much appreciated. Thanks
