I'm off to Tokyo come Sept 2nd, will I be able to get me some SFIV arcade action without having to hunt?

      At every decent arcade.

Go to Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, take your pick and you will find someone to play I can guaranteee you (I played others more than myself, so.....)

P.S If your going with someone go to Odaiba. Beautiful place with a lit ferris weel and ideal for dates and the like but still nice to visit on your own as well. Lots of excellent ramen shops inside as well that will compete for your custom (ha ha!)

            Finally someone understands my pain

I usually enter AA_ or AA. or AA! or some other variant thereof depending on what funky symbols are available to use.

Its amazing being able to play 3S with very little lag. love it. I'm usually on that or alpha 2, maybe a bit of kof98
Sorry to sound like a tool but what exacrtly is GGPO?

I've been desperate to play 3rd Strike online for ages and the best I got was Kaillera and that had loads of lag.

GGPO is some genius guy's idea of coding for lag-free gaming on beat'em ups.

It's basically the Final Burn Alpha wrapped up with a lobby system that lets you choose which game you want to play from the list, then you go into that game's lobby and can chat with everyone else in there. Then you just choose someone and challenge them (or are challenged). What makes it extra special is that you can spectate matches just like on live (I've had up to 3 spectators in some of my matches without any noticeable issues with lag).

You can also chat ingame without a problem, and whatever you type appears at the bottom of the screen. Also, it comes with a savestate for each game so once you've connected to someone it jumps straight to the character select screen which is rather nifty.

I played someone on 3rd Strike the other day and it was nigh-on perfect. It does freeze up sometimes for about 1-2 seconds like Kaillera does but it's only really when you start playing people farther away.

I've been playing it almost every evening since BOD and suddenly XBL doesn't matter anymore.

Of course, your experience (and bias) will vary and I'm not really into hyping things up blindly (like telling someone an emulator runs 'full speed' when it isn't), but GGPO has got me very excited, and it's still in the beta stage (I think it's technically alpha which is even dodgier, and he only went beta due to the demand)

                    ggpo.net

                    (good game, peace out)

(for some reason when I post a url it automatically links to a www. hostname, whereas the url itself doesn't have a www.ggpo.net, just ggpo.net)

                      try this:

                      go here

                      what that says is:

                      go here

and it stops adding www to the start

p.s. cheers kernow, forgot to put the link. i assumed moonwhistle would (or had) just googled GGPO like i did

p.p.s. i just found out if you put the vbcode between and , it won't actually run the code so it's great for explaining code to people without having to use spaces and whatnot

Thanks Billy and Kernow, I'll certainly take a look into this for my 3rd strike fix.

                            That's no excuse!
It was Ex_Mosquito. It wasnt any less stressful being behind the bigscreen, no! Im on ggpo tonight if you fancy a game?

Lol it'd be an honour to have my arse kicked by yourself, but I'll probably be busy for the next few days. I'll pop on there tomorrow or something if I can.

I've made a thread for people who use GGPO

Had the day off today and I've spent most of it playing Alpha 3 and 3rd Strike on the Dreamcast. A-ma-zing!!

3rd Strike is possibly my favourite 2D Fighter in terms of the complete package. The artwork, controls, music (especially the music) are all fantastic! I even managed to parry 16 of the 20 basketballs which is something I've never done before.

Then again, I fancy a bout of Garou coming on so my thoughts of 3rd Strike could well be usurped in the next 30 minutes! Or maybe I can get away with saying that 3rd Strike is my favourite Capcom 2D fighter and Garou is my favourite SNK fighter. But then, what happens to KOF XI?

Ooooh, too many great 2D fighters to choose from. Yay!
