    Star Wars: The Old Republic

21st October is the reveal date.

Every man and his dog seems to think this is the much-rumoured KoTOR MMO, but I think I'd actually prefer a straight forward KoTOR 3.

    Still, in Bioware we trust.

If this turns out to actually be KoTOR3, I may well mess myself in excitement.

What worrys me is that for a middling-sized company they are pumping out a hell of a lot of games at the moment - is there room for Mass Effect 2?

I thought EA basically confirmed it's gonna be an MMO?

There's always room for more Mass Effect

Dunno though, they have been quiet on that front. I'm guessing we might not hear something solid on it until next year.

No more mmos please. the market is saturated with the bloody things and no one plays most of them. Make a proper game ffs instead of a fetch quest extravaganza.

A new proper Kotor, yes please. Especially after the dissapointment of Kotor2.

Seconded, not a fan of MMORPGs so i dont care for that sort of announcement.

Apparantly Mass Effect is handled by another group. Besides, I dont think Lucas Arts would want to work with Bioware unless it was something Star Wars related.

I hope we do get some ME news somewhere The fabled DLC they promised has turned into only one piece and if they're not willing to announce ME2. They could at least make the wait easier with some more dlc.

Wouldn't surprise me if Mass Effect 2 was indeed farmed out to a third party, like KotOR2 and Neverwinter Nights 2 were to Obsidian, especially given that a third Knights of the Old Republic game would presumably be based on much newer technology.

I would be fairly disappointed if it were an MMO as well, I've tried various ones over the years, and have now firmly concluded that I just don't have the time or the inclination to get much out of them. I'm really not convinced, especially post-WoW, that anything is going to come along to really widen the market, and as others have noted, those who already are interested in MMOs have their game of choice.

That said, Bioware must be the only major RPG player to not have dabbled in MMO territory, so it wouldn't be a huge surprise. What would surprise me more would be if their entry into MMOs actually were KotOR, as opposed to something like Baldur's Gate or a new franchise, given that Star Wars Galaxies already exists.

Wouldn't they steer away from an mmo after the train wreck that was Galaxies? Or did Galaxies do brilliantly in spite of being horrendously dull?

Galaxies had a very dedicated community in the early stages, but they changed too much and it deserted them.

EA's ceo confirmed in July "We've got two of the most compelling MMOs in the industry in development" one of them"in partnership with Lucas, coming out of BioWare". He then confirmed it was indeed "Knights of the Old Republic Online". It'd be strange if a few months on EA announced a Lucas / EA game that wasn't KOTOR online!
