    Newbie to GH

Despite having no time to play games I was weak and bought GH3.

Having never played GH I am astounded how difficult this is. Jesus, is it because I'm old or am I just crap?

Starting to get the hang of it, sometimes I do a huge streak and have no idea how I did it. Sort of like letting the notes flow over you, at the end of a track the TV seems to disport and pulsate like after wathing one of those spiral effect things.

Only playing on easy, find it difficult to beleive I'll be able to move onto med and beyond.

    Any tips?

The Guitar Hero games do require a bit of practice to get right into them. But once it clicks you'll be fine.
I can't cope with much above medium difficulty but can still enjoy it.

Make sure you do the tutorials (if you haven't already). Other than that practice man, practice.

Practice it is then, I've looked at some of the crazy antics on Youtube -I'm a fair way off those!

It just takes a little while to get used to. A couple of hours on the easy mode will set you up to play the game on the normal difficulty with no problems. The jump to hard is quite large though and a little bit too much like hard work IMO - if you're putting that much time and effort in you might as well learn to play the real thing IMO.

lol GH, you lot should have started on Guitar Freaks, then you'd know what real skill is all about!

GH3, in my opinion, seems to have been catered for those who have already played the previous games and are looking for a challenge. Unfortuantly, Activision's idea of such challenges involves over-charted songs and tons of unnessercary three chord swoops.

I can't really say much when trying to move up to another difficulty, but if you're confident having played Easy after a few hours, it'd be worth trying Medium to get use to the inclusion of the Blue fret. Of course, as mentioned above, the jump from Medium to Hard is like a giant leap, but if you play the first couple of tiers on higher difficulties, just getting the pattern down to move between each note, and learning the advanced stuff, it will all fall into place.

Yeah it's all about practice, I had GH1 on PS2 and never touched it because I was so bad. but When it came to GH2 I really got into it and played and played and played.

Perhaps if Konami had of bothered to release it outside of Japan, then maybe we would agree.

You just need to play it, and keep playing, eventualy you'll get good, there is no other trick too it really.

When you first start the harder difficultues seem impossible, then a few months down the line youre embaressed you ever had trouble playing on medium as you can do it with your eyes shut.

Guitar Hero 3 is probabaly the hardest game in the series though, just so you know.

I fully agree guys. While i am better on the guitar (can cope on hard) it was the drums for me. I just got the band bundle for Xmas and i could not do the drums at all.

For some reason when i tried Rock Band 2 both the guitar and drums seemed to feel more natural, it is hard to explain but i felt like i was playing the song more than playling along with it (which is the feeling i get from Guitar Hero games).

I have been a Guitar Hero fan since GH 1 and vowed to stick with the series over Rock Band. However since they bothered to make RB2 a real game it is a much better experience and i feel it is a bit more forgiving. I strongly suggest to anybody that is struggling with GH that Rock Band maybe a better option.

Maybe this only worked for me, but I highly recommending moving up to Hard as quickly as possible. So long as you can just make it through a couple of songs you'll start to pick up the skills.

As already mentioned though, GH3 seems to be the hardest game in the GH\RB franchises so good luck
