A new entry called "Shenmue Town" will be released in Japan this winter for the Yahoo! Japan version of Mobage-town, which is a hugely popular mobile-based social network. While I'm happy that Sega seem to still consider Shenmue a franchise worth working on, I'm not really sure that the avarage Japanese person will care too much about this, seeing as the original wasn't exactly huge here. But as it says in the article, this could essentially attract those who were Shenmue fans, and also those are into mobile social network games in Japan (which does seem to be rather a large chunk of the young folk here).Interesting that you can access this from your pc too. Just hope that this gives Sega the motivation to finish the series, being on PSN or Live, or as a full release game.
