Well last night, I was trying to play a very large AVI file (50gb or so) and was surprised that the end of the file wouldn't play. I thought part of the drive must have misplaced sectors or something, so I ran CheckDisk. But, it told me I had to reset if I wanted to check it. So I did.
Big mistake, the system never started again. Windows XP (Professional Edition, btw)'s loading screen never got past a few blocks of the loading bar and then just reset. So, I installed Windows onto my secondary drive and once I had that up and running, I plugged the failed drive back in as my secondary one. Once it recognizes that there's a drive there, it just asks me if I want to format it.
Well damn, I have the option of sending the drive off to data recovery experts, but really rather wouldn't considering that it has some um... software with very high recommended retail prices... on it.
So my question is, is there any software I can use to try and pull the small parts of the data that I want out myself?
