hooking up to xbox 360 live - a question

Ok, I have never hooked up to the internet and wanted to get my 360 on there.

Its a pal machine, but in the house my auntie has ntl broadband.

I just phoned them and they said that ntl DO NOT suport any xbox live??

I thought aslong as you have a broadband connection you could get on with it??

I am a newbe to all net stuff.

Whats the pros of going wireless also (although I dont mind wires)
