    mega drive picture

I recently bought a mega drive with a scart cable however when i connect it to the tv the picture is constantly moving from side to side, not something i have ever seen with a scart cable. Does this sound like a cable problem or the console?

Do you mean the picture is rolling from side to side, or that it shifts slightly and reveals the overscan area?

Sorry mate, yeah the picture is rolling constantly and hardly visible!

Do you have an RF lead to plug in? If that produced the same problem, it would clearly be the MD.

Have you made absolutely sure that both ends of the cable are fully inserted into their respective holes? My TV displays a Rolling image if the Scart cable is slightly loose.

If you feel like opening the cable up, you can see the correct wiring here: http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/console/se...ereo-scart.htm - although that one is for a stereo cable.

Well i have no RF cable to test it as the scart came with the unit. The only other thing that I've noticed is that the only way i can get sound is through the headphone jack, would this mean that it's a problem with the unit?

Or the scart is wired up wrong, where did you get the scart lead from?

Though iirc you need to use aa 3.5mm stereo jack from the headphone port on the front of the MD for stereo.

Sounds like maybe the Composite Video/Sync signal in the cable is loose.

The other thing it could be is a cracked or dry solder joint on the Composite Video/Sync pin on the 8 pin DIN socket, but that's less likely.

If you wanted to send me your cable, I'd happily check it over for you. If you flatten it out and send it as a "large letter" it only costs about 78p each way.

Also try manually selecting the AV channel on the TV. On some TV's the picture will roll or move gradually from side to side if it is still in Tuner mode.
