    New CDRW drive problem

I've bought a BTC CDRW drive to replace my old one, which refused to open the tray. But I'm having a few problems with the new one.

When I start up, on the first initial start-up screen I get the message 'Sec Slave Drive Not Atapi compatible'. The new CDRW drive is connected in the same way as my old one - so I have no idea why this message appears on boot-up. However, I put on auto-detect from the BIOS menu and I *think* it detects it now as I see the model number and 'CDRW'.

Then after the start-up screen, Windows begins to load and I get the following message:

    [code:1:bba306d13e]Windows Protection Error.
While intilizing VCOMM device. Please restart your computer.[/code:1:bba306d13e]

I get this each time I have the CDRW attached to the HDD. I also get the same message with 'NAVA' (or something) in the place of 'VCOMM'. However, when I unattach the drive form the HDD, Windows boots as normal.

I've been led to believe that it maybe something to do with Windows loading the old drivers (from my old CDRW) for the new one. So, is this a case of going to Device Manager and removing the old device? I can only see the old CDRW device in safe mode under device manager, but not in normal Windows.

I want to be 100% sure in case another problem erupts...

Thanks in advance for anyone who can help.
