Street Fighter III Tournament - Prizes to be won, Xbox Live

17 days left to sign up; last sign-ups by midnight November 30th

Starting with the first round beginning December 1st, in the run-up to Street Fighter IV being released, I plan to run a tournament on the Xbox's Street Fighter Anniversary Collection's conversion of Street Fighter III, via Xbox Live.

I haven't quite decided the prize yet; either a forumite could donate a suitable one or we could club together and buy one (though donating won't be a pre-requisite for entering the tournament, just if people do then the prize will be better - and I won't divulge who donates what or how many to the forum at large; just to one moderator for confidence purposes).

    Tournament Format

The tournament will take place using a knockout system, the order of which will be drawn from a hat. Those with no opponent to face will bye that round. Each round will be drawn randomly, and the matches will be announced in this thread.

Players will have one week to play each round and report the winner back to the thread. Players are obviously also free to play each other casually at any time during the contest.

Any players that miss the one-week deadline will be disqualified, except for in the semi-final and final, in which case a time extension will be negotiated. Severely extenuating circumstances should be posted in the thread and a course of action will be discussed.

    In-match arrangements and rules

The matches will proceed as follows:

All games are to be played with the default timer options, and a round number of 3 (first to three rounds). System Direction must also be set to default.

If either player elects to do so, the two entrants must play 4 practice games. If both contestants want to skip this then they are free to immediately play their competitive games.

The competitive games will work on an "advantage" basis. Host advantage can count for a lot in SFIII, so to attempt to compensate for this, players will play whilst alternating between matches which player is hosting. Matches will continue until either one player wins two matches in a row, or one player concedes defeat. In the event of a game ending in a double-KO, players are to count that game as a scratch, and play it again.

Players may, rather than conceding defeat, postpone the ending of their game, provided both parties agree to do so. This is fine provided it doesn't delay the tournament.

    Eligibility

This tournament is open to the forum populace of rllmukforum and NTSC-UK; however, to keep organised, entrants are requested to use the thread on rllmukforum (http://www.rllmukforum.com/index.php?showtopic=196362), as it'd be difficult to keep track of two threads at once. As both these forums are joinable by anyone, in principle, the tournament is totally open. However, the max number of entrants is 32, and whilst it's highly unlikely we'll reach anywhere near that number, if it fills, priority may go to established forumites over new joiners.
