Third strike will probably win but I’d give the top spot to Episode 1 Racer, which was great in all three versions. Loved playing it on PC after seeing it demo’d in a Tiny PC store, and then later on DC, and later again in the arcade.

I can finally vote! Shenmue, SvC: MOTM and Third Strike for me

Finally some games I played for the year! 3rd Strike is also my fave SF game, possibly favourite fighter of all time so it has to be that.

          Dreamcast triple whammy for me,

SF Rush 2029, midway's only good arcade racer happened to be one of the best arcade racers made, the homeport with 4 player racing, battle mode and most importantly, stunt mode made it a MP staple. Cars with retractable wings needs to make a comeback.

Shenmue and SF3:3rd are my other shoe ins, not much to add other than they're fantastic.

Shenmue without a doubt. I didn't play it till about 2004 but it's an absolute GOAT. I had a magical time playing through both entries that summer. A totally engrossing experience.

I played through them both again a few years back and absolutely loved them all over again - they really stand up. But it's the first game that's the best, for me. Dobuita is rendered in such loving detail and your daily existence there feels so real. I really like the twists and turns of the story too - sneaking into the warehouse at night and meeting Master Chen is such a highlight.

For me it's one of the best games ever made and I think it was undoubtedly tremendously influential.

Basically, this round is a load of games I should have played at the time, but never had chance to play, so can't really comment.

Seaman, Shadowman, Shenmue, Silent Hill, Sim City 3000, SNK Vs. Capcom, Space Channel 5, Star Wars Racer, Street Fighter III, Strider 2, Strikers 1945 Plus and Super Smash Bros.

There's a lot of games others have love for, but I've never really got into.

I got confused and voted for Match of the Millennium thinking we were meaning CvS2, so you can discount what was already just a secondary vote, because my main vote is of course with Third Strike. The very greatest to ever do it.
