Critics Club II: 29 - Sean Connery

    "I'm plenty of votes"
    "But of course you are"

    Sean Connery

Vote for the movie you feel is their best whilst also discussing their other work, your reasons for voting and thoughts on what is their weakest.

Some will have very long lists so some trimming will be required to focus on the key entries but broadly the main selection will be available each time.

Next Monday will see the 30th entry open for voting, after that one we'll take a break for a while to combat fatigue levels and I'll come up with the list for the second round of resumes to judge

Surely his most iconic role is in Zardoz? I'll need to think about this one but it's the image that comes to mind when I think of Connery. Or indeed anything else. It's hard to wipe out that image, being perfectly honest.

I quite often spen the weekend in gun belts and dystopian pants.

My go to iconic image is him in Dr No, resplendent in his island casuals. Proper 60s cool.

His turn in Hell Drivers, though fairly small, deserves a mention too.

I think I prefer young Connery to old ... he became a bit of a parody of himself.

I'm all in on old Connery. So much appeal over young Connery where outside of Bond he never bothered me. He is another one where he mostly plays himself but I do love The Rock. Last Crusade is a good showcase because not only does he nail Indy's Dad despite the surprisingly narrow age gap between the two actors but the chemistry banter between the two is great considering he's walking into the third instalment of someone else's franchise
