Critics Club II: 22 - Alan Rickman

"Ho-ho-ho, now I have a turn at the poll"

    Alan Rickman

Vote for the movie you feel is their best whilst also discussing their other work, your reasons for voting and thoughts on what is their weakest.

Some will have very long lists so some trimming will be required to focus on the key entries but broadly the main selection will be available each time.

I agree but Snape is what he will be remembered for.

Yep, Galaxy Quest for me too. He is so perfect in that movie. It's a very good movie generally but I think it would be a fraction as good without Rickman.

I've not seen Galaxy Quest and it's only streaming on NowTV.

It's still genuinely gutting he's no longer here

                        Yeah, Galaxy Quest.

Die Hard is a stone cold classic as is Dogma but he steals GQ.

I remember very well the day it broke on the news. I was in a local Wetherspoons for lunch, it was not long since David Bowie died and Sky News or something was on the TV on silence and his image with his wife/ at a premier was on the tv with ticker scrolling beneath about Bowie. Then suddenly the newsreader with Alan Rickman and his birth/ death date. I nearly lost my ****. I was genuinly shocked and upset sat there and I couldn't eat, I thought there was some weird mix up. Far more of an impact to me than Bowie's passing, he was one of my favorite all time actors.

A really tough one. I Love Harry Potter but I was originally NOT happy about him being cast as Snape, as I never saw the character looking so broad and deep as Rickman. He killed it and made it his own though so I love him in a different way as Snape.

Die Hard and Prince of Thieves will still be what I think he is most remembered for, and he was perfect in Galaxy Quest and Dogma.

He brought one of the best acting performances I have seen out of Emma Thompson in Love Actually (a film I actually really disliked) and played the dreamy noble good guy Colonal Brandon in Sense and Sensibility, one of the few 'good guy' roles I have seen him play.

Torn, I think I'll go with him as Nottingham in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.
Die Hard and Galaxy Quest being a close second.
