Game region / account region must match

Thought this worth mentioning separately. Basically if you have a UK (EU) account and were to buy the game from Japan, it wouldn't work.

Not sure if this is something new for FF online or not?

Service accounts for FINAL FANTASY XIV and the FINAL FANTASY XIV Collector's Edition can only be added for the same region as your Square Enix account (Japan, North America, or Europe). The game cannot be played if the product region is different from the Square Enix account region, so be sure to check the region for which the product is intended before making a purchase

I think this was expected. It's exactly how Final Fantasy XI operates in tandem with the Square-Enix Account.

It basically means that those early adopters for XI who have US accounts are having to create seperate ones for XIV, so we'll need seperate security tokens for each game (hence why I'm happy about the Collector's Edition for XIV coming with a special branded security token as it will help distinguish between the two).

This was going to be a problem for me at first, but looking at the state of the weak pound and the fact that I don't see the exchange rate being too favorable again any time soon I'm going for the UK release of the CE and will be creating a UK account for this too, by the time I actually start it whenever that might be (stupid SE, why is the PS3 version not launching first?)

I'm actually paying more for my XI account than I was when I first started, so going US this time around has no discernible benefit for me that I can see.

I think the devs have already stated they are having issues with the PS3 version? Not to mention the Crystal Tools engine would mean a PC version would be built sooner.

I would have thought that more people, the japanese especially would be owners of a PS3 compared to a PC of the supercomputer like specs needed to achieve a half decent score on the benchmark program.

If there are serious issues with the console version then for the sake of their console fanbase, which I don't see being in the minority, they'd best be pulling out all the stops to see it hits the shelves quite some time before the current estimated date of March 2011!

To be honest after playing the alpha and beta I can't see me picking this up on PC, but I'm definitely interested in the PS3 version.

Will this use PoL? I wounder if it will muck up US/JP installs of FFXI if it puts it all together.

No, one of, if not the first thing that was announced is that the PoL viewer has been dropped.

I hated POL. It was the most annoying thing. I remember when I first started Playing XI the confusion that thing caused me with signing in and setting up email and accounts. I was only 19 at the time, but was annoying as hell.

To be honest I was just going to keep ordering US versions...

I think the only real benefits that existed for the US version of XI were that the game was released over there a good few months in advance of the UK, and the non borked pound meant the game and add-ons were a fair bit cheaper to order and the monthly fee ended up costing a quid or two less each month.

Now none of those things ring true.

Anyone able to decipher that? I assume it's related to the OP? I have an EU account so I don't think it'll be a problem, but it's not very clear (S-E specialise in that, don't they?).

Brought up briefly in the FFXI thread.

I think it basically means that those of us with US S-E accounts, which we needed to run the US version of FFXI, will be getting them switched over to EU accounts (again assuming I understood it correctly because as you say it's not 100% clear). If it does mean that it is a very good thing for those of us it affects but won't find out until later on and I can log in to my account.

For anyone else who hasn't got any existing S-E account, it means very little.

I had an email about this. I had a US account, which I'm assuming it means I will have to switch over to the UK one when I log in next.
