Nice job on the marines, I really like your bases. What did you use for the grass?

I started with Talisman when I was six then started Warhammer Fantasy a year or so later with High Elves and been playing ever since . I now have a Bretonnian army and Dark Angels force, and a bunch of Specialist Games stuff. For anyone feeling burnt out on 40k I strongly recommend Fantasy, while 40k has got steadily more about army composition and less about in game tactics, particularly since Apocalypse shoe horned in stuff the scale simply isn't designed for, Fantasy has gone from strength to strength with each edition and 8th provides the deepest core title experience yet. But for their best ruleset I recommend Epic Armageddon, truly perfect balance between all aspects of the strategy mindset.

Regarding the Sisters WD codex, to be fair they used to do this back in the day and it worked fine for many armies, I've heard rumours that they're taking White Dwarf back to the old style where it was full of new rules for miniatures and so on making it a better read and I think this will be a good thing. With Storm of Magic I believe some monsters will be featuring in WD over this time. GW are also doing another one off boxed game for September if you like Space Hulk, it's supposedly naval based though apparantly isn't a re-release of Man O' War.

The grass was GW scorched grass, just a little blob of PVA. Smaller the better, then a dip in the tub and you lightly blow on the grass to make it stand up right

I can see why they might retool WD. I think Smith's stopped carrying it a few months back, certainly none of the Guildford branches do anymore.

I spent a comedy evening the other day reading through all the Warhammer 40k entries on 1d4chan.org, but I don't recommend doing that at work...

Yeah they stopped selling them outside of their own stores. Makes sense though as the way it works in the magazine world is at the end of each month the shops send back any magazines that don't sell and get 100% reimbursed for each one, which leaves GW with a ton of wasted stock. Whereas with the weekly orders to GWs they get far less risk and a higher percentage of profits.

More importantly though, Dread Fleet is now up on their site for pre-order. It's a limited one off run like with Space Hulk and looks proper quality. It's Warmaster scale rather than Man O War sized.

Hehehe that reminds me of Man O War. I'm still on painting the Space Marines from the Macragge box set then it's onto the Tyranids which will be done super quick with washes.

Figured this thread was worth a mammoth necrobump given that Spartan Games have acquired the Halo license! They're making a fleet game first (during the first half of this year), with a ground based game to follow .

They've been authorised to create new ships to add to the lore and some have already been approved by MS apparently. The Covenant ships are said to be more powerful and focused on fire dispersal, while the UNSC rely on combined manoeuvres.

Not the first thing I think of, when I think of a Halo miniatures game. That being said, the Heroclix Halo stuff didn't take off.

Did Heroclix ever took off? I remember the BattleTech variant being shot down relatively early in its lifetime.

I thought it was a bit of a flop, as I've never heard of anyone actually playing it, but it's been going for over 10 years now, so someone has to be playing it.

                        Heroclix is massive.
The sheer amount of sets & figures is mind boggoling if I get round my brothers this week I'll see if I can take pictures of his stuff.

                        He has thousands of figures.

That's the thing; I'm aware there's tons of it, and that there are a lot of collectors. Every major thing seems to get a set these days.

That being said, years ago, I had a set, and the online community for it etc. was dead. I think it changed hands though, so maybe the new owners have done a better job.
