    I Am Legend 2

Warner Bros has apparently settled a deal which will secure a follow up to I Am Legend. Apparently, the film will be a sequel to the original rather than the previously rumoured prequel and will still feature Will Smith as the lead.

This is a classic example of a film which shouldn't have a sequel.

Hollywood really is totally lacking in new ideas. A sequel to a film that missed the point of the source material is going to be utterly chronic.

lol same thing I said to my little bro.

            Juuuust in case...

I liked the film, and I much preferred the alternative ending even though his dying was the whole point of the title, as it fit in better with what they did in the film itself(running at a bunch of vamps with a live grenade is the stuff of CoD, not the stuff of legend).

I thought Omega Man was hilarious, despite sticking closer to the source material(and taking hefty liberties with jive-talking vamps), so it would be interesting if they develop the intelligence concept hinted at in the alternative ending further for the sequel, although I doubt it.

            I see these possible scenarios:

            a) They stand by the original ending and say he somehow survived the explosion(this is Hancock we're talking about - he threw a whale into the sea ffs) or make some bull**** up about how his grenade martyrdom was the 'legend' of the title when in actual fact what really happened was the alternative ending, which they could start the sequel with and then carry on. Don't forget the woman and child escaped so they could blame shock or something.

            b) Pretend the theatrical ending never happened and just carry on from the alternative ending

            c) Ffwd to the future and assume his son didn't die in the helicopter with his wife, and he could play the son

            d) Create a secret twin brother who finds/takes over Neville's research and is also immune to vamps etc etc because it's a DNA thing

            e) Neville actually does get infected, becomes king of the smart, talkative vamps instead of one of the grunts, and uses what he's learned to transform them into the dominant species on the planet

            Also, @ QC

So, what happened in the alternate ending?

Enjoyed the first one, was on tv just now as it happens.

Remember the woman vamp that Will's was turning back to a human? That was the daughter/wife of the alpha vamp. In the alternative ending, he gives the woman back, and they all piss off.

Surely the whole attraction of the first film is that he's on his own, and how he handled that. Can't see how a sequel is going to work, on any level.

It's on my BR, and not as an extra, you watch the film with that ending(also has some added extra minor bits throughout the film)

All these many years later the film is moving forward and Will Smith is returning to star alongside Michael B Jordan

How does that even work? He was literally the last one left, that was the whole point. Just nope.

If they had any decency they'd make the movie again, and actually read the book as part of the process.

I’d be happy if they just remade the exact same film only used actual actors and practical effects for the creatures while making Will Smith entirely from CG.

He believed he was the last one alive but he wasn’t.

Where it gets interesting is that the theatrical and extended endings are vastly different:

He blows himself up and takes out all the vampires in the theatrical version to save the mother and son he meets, but in the extended version all three of them drive to the colony after he makes a sort of peace with the vampires

Also, they should call it I Am Legend, Too.
