    Best console tactical shooters?

Please let me know which are your favourite console tactical shooters, e.g. Rainbow 6, Ghost Recon. And WHY! Ideally Co-op online.

I like GRAW and GRAW 2 and I have played a bit of Rainbow 6 Vegas 2, mainly in co-op terrorist hunt and I'm waiting for a co-op partner to play through the game. All of them are great games from what I've played.

However, the benchmark for me is the first Rainbow Six: Vegas.

I've played this for hours and hours because of all the great co-op implementation. You can play through the entire game in co-op mode with 4 total players (only 2 in the sequel). You can play terrorist hunt with 4 players too.

You can work together or split off to enter a building via different routes. It never feels like it's cheating and it's your fault if you die. The maps are varied and there's never a safe place to camp. Sometimes they come to you, sometimes you have to locate them.

Plus, we always implement The Bauer Rule, which means the last man standing has to act like Jack Bauer and switch to silenced pistol and take out as many perps as they can. This makes for fine viewing for those already out the game.

It's a brilliant game that has yet to be beaten, in my eyes, but I haven't played everything! It's a game I come back to time and time again because there's nothing like abseiling down the side of a building upside-down, taking out some terrorists with your pistol, then smashing through the window and taking down the rest!

Although Vegas was brilliant, it had a few too many annoying bugs and playing Terrorist Hunt was frustrating in the extreme. A terrorist would turn up out of nowhere, run through a hail of opposition gunfire, whisper sweet nothings in your ear hole and then blast you with his shotgun.

My favourite Tactical Shooter on console would be split between Halo: Combat Evolved or Rainbow Six 3, both on the original Xbox. Halo has still yet to be beaten with its seamless Co-Op on every level, perfect weapon balance and brilliant enemy AI. Combined, these elements achieve a nirvana of multiplayer gaming the way it’s always been meant to be played, 2 or more people in one room shouting advice and banter as another enemy encampment is cleared.

Rainbow Six 3 is another brilliant Co-Op game but the atmosphere is ramped up a notch and the player is less able to recover or improvise from a botched plan as they are in Halo. Every room must be scouted, ideas must be talked about and missions can fail in the drop of a hat. Ubisoft have never reached the same level of tactical high as the series previously used as the main selling point, instead going down a more action orientated route, so this game remains in a bubble in till Ubisoft decide to pop it.

Thinking about it, I want an original Xbox back.

I second the R6 originals on Xbox. Both the first one and Black Arrow. Also really liked Ghost Recon Island Thunder.

I really enjoyed Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising in coop. Stick it on hard. Superbly tense and fun.

          Shots fired.

I love T Hunt in the R6 Vegas games and while it may be ball breakingly difficult, the GRAW 2 coop is amazing with the right group. It is buggy and controls like a swine now but still great open maps.

If you want to go back to the last gen, the best tactical coop was probably Splinter Cell Chaos Theory.
