Is it just me or are Dylan songs generally better when covered than the original?

Of the covers of Dylan songs I've heard, it's only Hendrix's rendition I prefer. I know many prefer The Byrds' version of Mr. Tambourine Man to the original and, in fairness, they did make the song their own I suppose (which is what all good covers ought do) but they failed utterly in preserving the spirit of the song. The original is a sprawling, poetic meditation on drug use, whilst the Byrds took it and turned it into a jolly pop song you can dance to. Horses for courses, of course, but I much prefer the original:
