For me Ubi Soft are one of my favourite developers/Publishers at the moment. Id had my eye on RS3 but even so i was still surprised at the quality of the demo.
Its a tough demo and an excellent advertisement for the game.

        Oh dear God no.

I thought this game was going to be *it* -- the ultimate Xbox FPS for those of us who don't like to shoot squashy aliens -- but I've just heard that the bodies disappear postmortem. Can someone with the demo please confirm or deny?

It would seem strange to lavish so much attention on realism, then have fade-away bodies. It'd also mean you can't "play" with your victims' exquisite ragdolliness after blowing a mission.

        I've got to know.

PS: does anyone with first-hand experience of Sierra's SWAT: Global Something Or Other, due late this month, know if it holds a candle to R6-3?

bodies do vanish after you've killed them.

hmm, maybe it's only in the demo to lower the rating!?

I just haven't clicked with the demo at all, it just feels so clunky and just bores me, yet i really like ghost.

From the demo I really think this plays like a hybrid of Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon but with headset support... I think that pretty much sums it up.

Also for those that wanna know, if you have a modded machine and the US demo disk all the extra download content on the disk can be used and works fine online.

On the US demo disk there are 2 levels for Splinter Cell (one already out on XBL) and another 4 levels for GR:IT (not available on XBL, yet).

Also for those that are interested I currently have the extra GR:IT levels on my PC at home so if anyone wants them let me know.

Yep, sounds like another one to add to the list of upcoming Live titles I will be purchasing.

I like the sound of the headset commands. If they can get this to work well it will be a big plus over other squad based shooters.

Looking forward to it along with Top Spin Tennis, PGR2 & Counterstrike.

Just played the demo and was very impressed, the lighting is fantastic. Hiding out in the sewer I saw a shadow on a tunnel wall and was able to clip the guy at the moment he strolled into view, most satisfying.
Also, I used the headset to try the voice commands, I forgot most of them and did not print them out, but the ones I could remember worked ok. I did have to repeat the commands quite often but I think that might be down to my amazingly bad pronunciation (Essex boy twang see). It was really cool to issue your team a command to open, flash and clear and watch as the team done the business and you charged in with them.

The game seemed very realistic, the surround sound adds a lot to the environments and works very well. The weapons sound good and you do feel like you a riddling a guy with bullets. Graphics are good and the various view modes night & heat vision work well also.

I am really looking forward to the release of this one now, I like Ghost Recon but this seems to be taking it to the next level. With the option of online CO-OP mode this, hopefully, will be great fun to play on Live.

                    Roll on November

                    TR

ps Thanks for the list of voice commands Henning, I will give them a try later.

do the voice comms only work on the US demo, because i haven't been able to get it to work on the PAL demo.

It works on the UK demo as well, although it does take a bit of adjusting of your mike. I had to hold it close to my lips and speak slowly. Even then it did not always work but as I not expecting any sort of voice stuff to work when it did it was a bonus.

Firstly, ensure you are alone when you do it because you will feel like a tlt saying hold, regroup etc and being totally ignored. The commands I got to work were Hold/ Regroup/ Open, flash & clear/move & clear. I could not remember any others so I have copied the list above and will try those when I have a chance.
It does work although it is flaky at the mo. Persevere and ask nice enough and I am sure your team will (eventually) perform your orders. Perhaps they are just a disobedient bunch

This may well be the case! I've been chatting with Will (Play mag) about this game. His office mates, XBM, have presumably got the review code in and he's been telling me what he's seen on his frequent trips past (bladder problem.) He asked them about the disappearing bodies today and spake thus:

                          "The bodies DON'T DISAPPEAR.
I just asked an XBM sort, they say that they don't. And they are, in final analysis, the Xperts. Ha!"

If any incentive was needed, that seals the deal for me. On October 28th, I'll be bringing this puppy home and going on a ragdoll corpse manipulation spree every time a mission doesn't go my way.

                              Hmmmm.

Sorry to be late to the show, but I just got my demo of this today and I'm a little bit worried...

I broke a habit. I *never* pre-order here. There are so many huge stores that it's pretty much always possible to find your game on launch day if you just drive around a little. If the games stores are out, then retail behemoths like Walmart will likely have it, or Toys R Us, or someone. But RSix3 has had me going for ages, it's so me. I simply *had* to ensure I'd have a copy waiting on launch, so down I went to place my pre-order last night, got blethering to the game store guys about happy things like Deus Ex 2, forgot to take my free RSix3 demo, went back to get it this morning.

It's the same as the UK coverdisc; the Alcatraz level. I'm finding it oddly jittery, if you follow. Why has nobody mentioned this? Like, your POV seems to get 'nervous' as you move around some objects, and it twitters about while you pass, resulting in very much the sort of thing one wouldn't truthfully observe as part of an elite task force. Not to start any fights, merely to illustrate what I mean, it's the sort of symptom you found on PSone shooters as the hardware struggled to resolve where an object or the camera should be, making for some rather off-putting twitchery. It's also the sort of thing I've never once discovered in Halo.

These unhappy convulsions seem at their worst when traveling in the lowered, crouched stance which, given how marvelously frightening the game is, tends to be most of the time for me. Try strafing around the bookshelves in the room at the back of the showers.

My hopes are high that, after I retrieve the full version from GameStop on Wednesday morning, none of this will matter as it will have been ironed out between the creation of the demo and the gold build. I'm simply curious why no-one else brought it up, as it's at least cause for concern. I want this baby to be smooth.

That aside, it is great fun. I'm loving the tense atmosphere that comes out of long periods of silence in dusty, beautifully lit, worn-down concrete locations, punctuated now and then by the incredibly harsh bark of automatic weaponry. Very likely the best weapon sounds I've heard from the Xbox: the audio-visual feedback you get from firing is glorious. Halo never felt strong enough in the center channel to provide that jarring firecracker report. You almost squint to keep the powder and brass from hitting your eyes. Consequently, when enemies fire on you, it's horrible, and you really, really want to be out of the way. That's something I'm sure will be lost on Live, when people just play it like Unreal, running from room to room, guns blazing the whole time. The piano-forte dynamic will be lost, I fear.

BTW, what a nice bloke in GameStop! Because I returned this morning to claim the demo I'd forgotten the night before, he said he was sorry I'd had to come back (it's about one mile from my door) and gave me another demo (Metal Arms - hey, it's free) and a terribly sweet little MegaMan digital gyro clock for nowt. From a chain store. Well, okay, it made me happy anyway. Lots of blue Xbox controllers hanging on the wall too, but I'm green n' black man.

I've not actually noticed any framerate problems to be honest, though I have just been busy trying not to get hit from the rocket just around the first corner...makes me wince every time.

The bit in the shower room was one of the most atmospheric and terrifying moments in recent FPS history. The graphics, the sound, the music and the onslaught of enemies juust out of reach is just so well executed. Heck, the fact that the scenery can get blown away along with your squad mates is just the icing on the cake.
This very scene sold me the game, one of the most memorable moments ever in a demo.
