I've yet to play that game properly, hope to eventually. I would say one thing if you haven't played it yet - watch the intro with sound muted (as I remember it starts playing if you don't press anything on the main menu screen). The appalling voice acting will ruin it for you otherwise!

Having watched the prologue on the disc I will say that I'm kind of into the voice acting. Noticed that one of the characters is voiced by the same guy who voices Brock in the Pokémon anime.

I'm seeing double - four Virtua Fighters. Wouldn't normally post something so ordinary alone but wondered if anyone else does this. I found a copy in the charity shop for a quid - sleeve and disc absolutely mint, genuinely as new. Case slightly ruined by Gamestation sticker (if left on for long enough they create a weird "bulge" in the plastic) and a tiny bit yellowed - hard to see as they both look yellowed next to my yellow-bulbed lamp. Manual completely destroyed by Gamestation sticker (they've been out of business so long that it's rare any of their stickers will come off without causing some damage - maybe 20% success rate getting them off).

To rectify the manual situation at least I went on my lunch break to inspect every VF5 in the two local Cex branches (three available total). Struck gold with one - nice case, OK sleeve (but not as good), mint manual and lightly used disc. If I knew it would have been this good I'd have probably taken it in the first place, but I'm sick of that branch in particular giving me discs that look like they've been in the war. Just my luck really they had a nice one for a change! They weren't even that surly with me.

Anyway, one mint copy of VF5 now assembled for a total cost of £2.50. One not as good copy that I can give to a friend, lob into a canal or something.

Inspired by the PS2 threads on here, I'm really curious to give this a go at some point.

              Some more FDS bits.

... and then something rather special that I've wanted for a very long time.

              And yes, they're all complete

knowing how much single famicom mini gba games go for noawadays that can't have been cheap. lol long gone are the £13 price tags they once had.

[edit] doki oki finally turned up took the seller nearoy a week to post it off so much for speedy uk delivery. The dark pic in the ebay listing hid all the scratches on the case but novus works wonders.

Me and the missus went to the Doncaster Retro Game thing again, it's something to do. Some insane prices, sellers who are dreaming, dirty and horrible stock - but amongst it there's a lot of great sellers with interesting and good stock. There's also some people who carry absolute dirt cheap Japanese stuff and that's more my bag.

Sega Powered Issue 1+2: Heard great things about this magazine but had no chance to buy it until now, so I bought it directly from the people themselves! Looking forward to getting stuck in when I'm not exhausted from driving all over the place.
Dragon Ninja (Famicom): I've made it a habit of picking up a cheap loose Famicom cartridge when I'm there and this one was good for the money. I'm a bad enough dude to own it, I reckon.
Aquanaut's Holiday (PS1): I discovered this game a few years back by looking at weird PS1 games on the Retropie and I really liked it, so I was keeping an eye out for a release in good nick, this one is lovely and has the spine etc. Could do with a new jewel case but I'm sure the Poundland music section will deliver the goods there. Weird relaxing exploratory sea "game", not really much of a game to it to be honest. Just go about and see what you can find in the ocean.
Fish Eyes (PS1): I recently got the PAL version of the third one on PS2, thought I'd try the first one as well. FISH EYES is an ace title for a game. It's only the budget re-release of it, but it's lovely condition and it was three quid. Go on then.
Sakura Wars (SS): Missus was wanting one of these in nice condition to look at the artwork mainly. Maybe we won't have to feel guilty playing the English translation. It was amongst a box of random dirt cheap Japanese Saturn games.
Sakura Wars Steam Radio Show (SS): As was this! Think this is basically just a load of pictures and interviews or something.
Princess Maker 2 (SS): I encouraged this one to make up the numbers (it was a combo deal), I used to play the official but cancelled English translation for PC when it was easily-available abandonware sometime in the 2000s. I can still remember the main theme music in my head. Raise a young girl and be the best parent ever by forcing her to work as a night watchman in a graveyard.
Virtua Fighter CG Portrait Series - Shun Di (SS): I love the VF CG Portrait Series as a bizarre curio of the time and I'd love to gradually collect the whole set. This was a quid I think! Shun Di is probably the wackiest of the lot. Utterly stupid, but kind of charming in a way.
Side Pocket 2 (SS): Love the Side Pocket series and the second one on the Saturn is a really good one, very last of the 2D ones before they went to absolutely hideously ugly 3D. A lot of the soundtrack on this is ace by the way, I half wanted this purely to blast it in the car CD player. This one is my favourite: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXC-pNw4VRY
Virtual Casino (SS): I don't know why I'm attracted to really crummy casino games, but I am. This one has such dreadful-looking 3D bunny girl models that I wanted to own it, it was pocket change and it made me laugh. Can you tell there was some good Saturn deals here? This was £2 or something.
Fighting Fury (PS2): Some fighting game that is a localization of a fairly bad Japanese game that was based on some manga series. I keep stumbling across this in Cex with no manual or in really awful condition and I'm sick of it turning up like a bad penny. A quid? Go on then! I'm always interested in these kinds of releases, even if the games aren't that good.
Mad Maestro (PS2): I didn't actually get this from Doncaster, I was annoyed recently that I saw it in Cex for a quid and it turned out they'd lost the disc. They only had two for sale in the whole country so I just ordered both in the hope one was in decent nick or I could make a decent one out of two (that's what I did).
Masters: Harukanaru Augusta 3 (SS): It's a T&E Soft golf game, their Saturn golf games are actually pretty good and I wouldn't mind the whole set. But I'm also curious as to how much the game engine is like Virtual Hydlide as I'm planning to knock up a video about the former.

Missus also got some other stuff not pictured - a few guide books and games, sealed copy of Bayonetta on the PS3, Wetrix 2 on the PS2. If I get that together I'll post that up.

Really nice set of gets, on the Saturn in particular. And ultra cheap, which is nice. Sakura Wars and Side Pocket 2 are excellent games. I like the US version of the latter for the corny FMVs, too!

I've been playing Sega Rally on the Saturn and been adoring it, so much so, I've grabbed the Model 2 Emulator on my PC and been playing the Arcade original to compare.

The visual diffrence is extraordinary, with the Saturn version looking like. Well, the closest comparision is playing the Mega Drive version of Virtua Racing, then loading up the Switch port of the original Arcade game. The improvment in clarity, textures and VFX is huge.

However, there's a feel in the analog stick that makes the Saturn version feel so much nicer and even after attempting to tweak settings, the Saturn port feels so much nicer. Also, as the graphics are so clean in the Arcade original, the game oddly feels and looks older, wearing the near 30 years of graphics age diffrence on its sleeve. Wheras the Saturn version, despite being heavily pixelated, smears the years away and combined with the improved handiling, I do prefer this version of the game.

After playing Sega Rally for a few hours this weekend, I really don't think there's such a well handiling and satisfying racing game made than this. What a classic.

Such a sublime game. I never get tired of throwing the Saturn game on for a spin. The type of beautifully simple and refined racer that simply doesn’t exist nowadays.

Yeah, Sega Rally on the Saturn is incredible. To give the player that much feel through a relatively basic controller is super clever.

The first Sega Rally, early Ridge, and Daytona are genuinely timeless. That early experimentation with the idea of how a 3D racing game could work resulted in such unique and beautifully abstracted gameplay.

I honestly think SEGA Rally is leagues ahead of Ridge and Daytona. SEGA Rally is the reason I own a Saturn.
