Away from open world sort of games, the machine wasn't very good at running racers, beat 'em ups, and shoot 'em ups like the Saturn and PlayStation could. It was clear that the N64 tech was designed primarily to deliver more open and expansive game worlds.

So it's easy to see why people moan about N64 games not standing the test of time, because a lot of them were experimental, running on technology that was far from ideal.
