I honestly wish he would shove off. I've never liked his Bond, but then again, it's not so much him - I don't much like this more serious version of the franchise.

Hopefully they drop the continuity after the next one so Craig's exist in a bubble and they can do what they want, especially given the cringey turns Spectre introduced. I miss each film being a bit of a surprise, the Craig ones are very similar in tone and execution and the idea of a direct sequel to Spectre winds my expectations.

Mission Impossible is more a template for Bond now than anything else. Real stunt work with a solid contained plot but not grey/beige scaled dry toned.

      God I miss Pierce Brosnan.

When The Bourne Identity came out, it put the Bond franchise on its toes, using a map, a mini or rolled-up newspaper to escape scrapes rather than gadgets, guns and Aston Martins BMWs.

Now Mission: Impossible: Fallout has upped the action, they've got their work cut out for them.

I love Danny Boyle and hope he comes up with the goods, but I agree that Craig's exit would have been fine after SPECTRE, both as a character and an actor. The whole wrist-slitting outburst was in poor taste.

Brosnan's films were rrrrrubbish by the end, though.
Surfing on a tidal wave was just too much. That and his invisible car was giant leap over the shark.

Here is a picture of Rosamund Pike from Die Another Day for reference purposes:

I seem to remember that ending with Robocop. It was easily the worst Bond film I have ever seen.

The film quality had dropped off but Brosnan was great throughout, I liked that his Bond was like the most well rounded. Die Another Day did lead the series to a point where it was hard to continue given how much of a cartoon it had become though. I liked the opening hovercraft chase across the minefield though. It's a shame they lost focus as Goldeneye was not only one of the best entries but was a great template going forward, I guess the same goes for Craig's as Royale is vastly superior to the three that followed.

And at least the invisible car has some grounding in real world tech

Here is proof positive that ad agencies watch nerdy science videos on YouTube just as often as the rest of us.

Brosnan was great, I don't blame him. The stories were increasingly silly, though.

Question: Do you think Goldeneye is remembered better than it is because of the Rare game?

Re: Goldeneye, the game definitely helped its appeal but it came out strong too and 2 years before the game. It's fair to put much of that on Martin Campbell who pulled the same trick again with Casino Royale. There's probably the factor as well that after Dalton the franchise was in a weak position so the impact was strong because it came back in such positive form. even now though I feel it holds its own against its siblings. Quality dropped off for Tomorrow Never Dies though.

Personally Brosnan didn't do much for me. He was fine but just so vanilla. He never seemed to have an edge and, to me, felt like he was just putting on a costume rather than being the character. Like karaoke Bond. But it's all just personal preference and we all have our favourites. Well, actually I'm not sure I have a favourite... maybe I'm just not all that much into Bond...

Yeah, it's weird how time shifts your perspective.

I loved the Moore films, but rewatching some of them now, like Moonraker, is painful.
I remembered it being dark and brooding. A permanently-serious Drax and his plans for genocide and him sending his attack dogs onto a traitorous Bond girl were my overriding memories, but watching it again showed how silly it is.
Double-taking pigeons, hovercraft gondolas, Close Encounters codes, Jaws as a goody and going into space.

So as filmmakers, they're tasked with the unenviable mission of making a fun, but serious spy film, that's as good as the Bonds fans look back at with rose-tinted spy glasses but better than any other recent action film.

I think Die Another Day had a fantastic prologue, up there with the best. I thought the idea, that Bond was taken down by people using "gadgets" that were just civilian equipment these days, was a superb touch. Just a shame about the rest.

Just consider this: Hale Berry's character, Jinx, was in it so much because she was meant to get her own movie series. Let that sink in.

Hell of a dice roll rebooting as well, despite the complaints the film attracts Die Another Day remains the most successful non-Craig entry in the franchise so from a financial standpoint they threw Brosnan out and rebooted it all at the franchises money earning peak

Forgot, Madonna aside, the fencing scene in the film is good too

Forgot, Brosnan took on Sean Bean! Auto-win!

                            And that farewell...

                                Danny Boyle no longer directing

"Creative differences" have been blamed for the decision, its producers and star Daniel Craig say.
