    RMS Titanic II

This must have knocked around for over twenty years and the man behind this recent drive has struggled to gain traction for a while now but seems to have finally gotten what he wanted.

Launching in 2018 for its maiden voyage, a replica of the Titanic is to be built and put into service. Specifics into funding aren't available but it seems as is some form of Dubai and Chinese investment is involved and the maiden voyage will (PR shoot and a miss) be from Eastern China to Dubai.

The new ship will however have some design differences to account for modern maritime law. It will be welded together, be around 4 feet wider, and be equipped with all required safety apparatus. To the casual observer however, the Titanic will be taking to the waves once more.

Would you book yourself on to a cruise on the ship or is a project such as this in too much poor taste?

Will this ship wash up on a frozen apocalyptic New York?

          Are these people mad?!

Didn't they watch that film about the boat that sinks?

You know the one. What's it called?

          Oh yeah, The Poseidon Adventure...

Apparently this is a little behind schedule but is still happening with these images of the construction having been released:

Though this is for the land locked replica. The sea worthy replica the thread originally referred to seems to have failed like so many attempts before it

The seaworthy recreation is still in 'we promise it's coming' territory but the landlocked recreation in China will be opening later this year. Here are some photo's taken just days ago:

I'm not an expert on shipbuilding but 2 years sound an awfully short period.

The Pandemic has stopped many things but unlike an iceberg is has only slowed the landlocked Titanic that is inching forward toward completion:

An update video has been released, construction still continues but it still looks a fair way off being finished

With the Chinese landlocked replica having ceased progress in the past three years and now looking sunk, someone else takes up the mantle:
