Sony Pictures is working with Sega to produce a Sonic the Hedgehog movie as it looks to expand its upcoming slate of game based films.

The film is said to be targeting a 2018 release and will (sadly) use a blend of animation and live action.

Speaking of, Sony is dropping the PR Hype ball hard on the Ratchet movie.

The Sonic series is known for strong characterisation and narrative so this should work well.

Saying that, Pirates of the Caribbean is based on a 3 minute theme park ride from the 1960s and has done billions at the box office over 4 movies!

At the moment it reeks of The Smurfs or similar and a massive misreading of the series.

OK, decided to come full circle with this and make an assertion - I think it's going to be really good.

Might seem bizarre but I think this because every single piece of news that comes out about it makes it sound bad. Like it just sounds terrible. However, I can't help but feel that somewhere along the line, someone involved in this project has a grand vision for it being good, somehow. Like the announcement was immediately "oh really? That doesn't show promise" then everything so far as just got worse, worse, worse.

I have no idea how it's going to be good, but I just bet it is going to be good. Somehow.

I guess we'll revisit this once its out.
