Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Films have announced that a December 16th 2022 release date has been set for the “Aquaman” sequel. The sequel will bring back star Jason Momoa, but almost all other details are under wraps at this point including director and other cast mates. It is confirmed that David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, who […]

One of the most surprising announcements in the wake of the success of James Wan’s “Aquaman” was that of a spin-off being put into development, one focused on the intriguingly designed Trench creatures from one of the film’s key sequences. We already know the spin-off won’t include any of the main cast of “Aquaman,” they […]

The Trench is confirmed to take place after the events of Aquaman and will arrive before that films sequel making it likely to arrive in 2021

Idris Elba has been revealed as Will Smith’s replacement in the role of Deadshot in the “Suicide Squad” sequel at Warner Bros. Pictures. Smith had to depart the project due to scheduling conflicts, and the studio moved fast to secure another A-lister to replace him before filming begins in September. Elba met with the film’s […]

Variety has reported that Deadshot returns in Suicide Squad 2 but with Will Smith not able to return James Gunn has recast the role with Idris Elba

An apparent list of the new characters to appear in James Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad” has gone online over at Collider, the group of characters joining Deadshot whom it was revealed yesterday will be played by Idris Elba who is replacing Will Smith. According to the site, the new squad will consist of Ratcatcher, King […]

Reportedly Suicide Squad 2 will only feature Harley Quinn in a limited capacity and will primarily follow:

            -Deadshot
            -Ratcatcher
            -Peacemaker
            -Polka Dot Man
            -King Shark

More details about James Gunn’s sequel to “Suicide Squad” are beginning to slip out as the film is rapidly coming together in pre-production ahead of filming later this year. In a new report at THR, it has been revealed that Gunn opted to recast rather than omit the character of Deadshot because in the follow-up […]

Apparently Gunn's script for Suicide Squad 2 focuses on Deadshot so much it's for that reason that he decided to recast when Will Smith became unavailable. His script is said to be folding much of the 80's era Suicide Squad set up for the character into the mix rather than the New 52 era focus the first film had. If the film is a success the door is being left open for an Idris Elba led Deadshot solo movie.

In the wake of yesterday’s major news that James Gunn has been rehired by Disney Pictures and Marvel Studios to helm a third film in the “Guardians of the Galaxy” franchise, one immediate question that quickly came to mind was what it would mean for his involvement in “The Suicide Squad” at Warner Bros. Pictures […]

The producer of the Gunn led Squad follow up says the film will treat itself as a hard reboot (if you ignore the fact Quinn returns) and seems set to be called The Suicide Squad

He’s a keen fan of the character and he played him already for “Justice League,” but now Ezra Miller is taking his love of The Flash one step further. Miller and celebrated comics author Grant Morrison are teaming up to take a shot at the script for “The Flash” standalone film at Warner Bros. Pictures. […]

Ezra Miller, meanwhile, is said to be helping to write a new script for The Flash that will be a darker interpretation of the character. The existing writer/directors and the studio want to make a lighter toned version so if his script isn't accepted it's expected Ezra will drop out of the DCU and Flash will be recast.

A couple of major Warner Bros. Pictures productions are lining up start dates later this year ahead of proposed releases in 2021 according to GWW which has been generally reliable when it comes to film production dates. First up, they indicate Warners is targeting a November start of filming on “The Flash” movie. “Spider-Man: Homecoming” […]

Another report says that Warners is targeting a November date for starting filming on The Flash and The Batman will begin this year also

While many are wondering how Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor character is set to return in Patty Jenkins’ upcoming “Wonder Woman 1984,” a producer on the film has hinted that we shouldn’t expect much in the way of ties to the previous film. Veteran producer Charles Roven, talking with Vulture (via CBM), says the new film […]

Lastly, the producer of Wonder Woman 1984 has reiterated that despite Chris Pine's return the film is a standalone entry and doesn't build on the events of the first film. Sources saying it's a sequel in the same way each Indiana Jones or Bond entry is.

The trend of setting superhero films in the past seems to be growing. From “Wonder Woman” in the 1910s to the first “Captain America” in the 1940s, “X-Men: First Class” in the 1960s and “Captain Marvel” in the 1990s, people seem to be having little issue with stories of caped heroes from different eras. Now […]

The Batman is reported to be set in the 1990's. This would make sense as it would allow Reeves to largely do what he wants with the character and with a new actor but at the same time easily allow the film to remain in canon with the existing DCU films.

Despite the film’s financial success, there’s not a lot of love for many elements in “Suicide Squad”. One of the few that seemed to be well liked was Australian actor Jai Courtney’s larrakin Captain Boomerang. Now, in an interview with Business Insider, Courtney said he is coming back to play the role of the grimy […]

The “Birds of Prey” movie is currently filming with Margot Robbie reprising her “Suicide Squad” role of Harley Quinn, and new photos suggest the return of another familiar face – The Joker. Just Jared has posted some snaps from the set seemingly confirming the Clown Prince of Crime will make an appearance in the film. […]

Meanwhile, Joker appears in Birds of Prey but Leto is filming Morbius meaning this is a stand in, still it suggests his incarnation of the Joker remains within the DCU

Last week Australian actor Jai Courtney broke the news that he would returning as George ‘Digger’ Harkness, aka Captain Boomerang, in James Gunn’s upcoming “The Suicide Squad” film at Warner Bros. Pictures. The news followed in the wake of comments by the film’s producer who indicated the project is more of a reboot than a […]

It's starting to be reported around that Viola Davies will also be returning as Amanda Waller in Suicide Squad 2

Director James Gunn has decided to move on from the Deadshot character and have Idris Elba play a new character in "The Suicide Squad."

But one change also coming in is that whilst Idris Elba will be in the film he will no longer be playing Deadshot, a new character will be taken by the actor leaving Deadshot open for Smith to return to potentially later on.

I'll write up on Monday but in essence - Shazam = Another swing and a hit on the recovery road for DCU

                              Shazam!
This is a really simple film that isn't caught up at all in the whole DCU world building angle that has bogged the series down so far. If I had to pitch it against its rivals I'd say this is for DC what Ant Man is to MCU. It's a smaller scale, lighter toned entry that emphasises humour and is more successful at it than Ant Man. The description of Big with Superpowers is spot on and the film doesn't shy from it, it simply has fun with the concept and whilst nerds will no doubt pick it apart for details that have changed from the comics etc it simply sets out a simple plot and delivers on it. In fact there's a lot of mileage in terms of ways to follow this up, it kind of covers a lot but by showing rather than explaining. It's also a good exercise for DC because this film is exactly the tone they should be aiming at for now as they transition away from the Snyderverse image. Really good fun, enjoyed it more than the other Captain Marvel from last month.
