I watched Eternals last night and that movie had a stick up its butt the whole time. It just all felt so wooden. And way too much of nothing going on for a large chunk of it. I can see why they had a tough time marketing it - to their credit, it’s clear they didn’t want to give away much of what the movie is actually about. But I feel that difficulty was also in the film itself, with elements ultimately being redundant and yet still needing to get wrapped up regardless. Considering the number of characters, they didn’t do a bad job at helping us get to know them but I found most of them pretty dull and maybe the others would have had a chance to shine on a smaller team. The one highlight was the Bollywood valet guy.
It’s good that Marvel movies can be their own thing and great that they try different things but, when most of them (in spite of any other flaws) are so fun to watch, it’s hard for me not to compare here when this one wasn’t.
