I think I had a different experience with The First Avenger because I had no love for the source material and not all that much knowledge about it. For me, the fact that Captain America with all his jingoist connotations could be made into a really entertaining movie, and a period movie at that, was a big surprise. I have watched it again recently and it's still one that holds up very well.

First Avenger always seems to more broadly get looked over in light of the success of its two sequels but it does seem to be under valued as to how much of Winter Soldier works because of the groundwork laid by the first film. It was the first MCU entry to really try to bring heart to the character. Stark, Banner and Thor were all flawed characters with physical advantages whereas Captain America was initially the invert of that, the true hero lacking the means to make a difference physically. Without establishing him as the outright hero of the group it would create a hole in the sequels and the Avenger films and his position as an anchor within a team of ego's, much of it relying on FA's depiction. I do love that Joe Johnston style of WWII setting just like in Rocketeer but I genuinely think Phase One would have been greatly diminished without the film, more so than most of the others of that phase.

Netflix has revealed the first teaser trailer for the second season of “Marvel’s Luke Cage” and at the same time have set a June 22nd premiere date for the full season. In the new season, Luke Cage has cleared his name and become a celebrity on the streets of Harlem with a reputation as bulletproof […]

Season 2 of Luke Cage is set to launch on 22 June 2018. The new season see's Luke famous (unless you're in the movies) and trying to balance that with protecting those around him.

I read a quite entertaining story about the first scene where he comes out of the procedure and is all buff, and the Agent Carter character is standing next to him. Apparently it took them a while to get that shot right, with a bunch of takes, and the actress kept just touching Evans (because let's face it, he looks like a freaking god). It got to the point where he had to jokingly confront her about it and say "I need you to stop touching me", and she got super-embarassed.

I'm not sure if it's true, and probably isn't (I find these "on the set" stories rarely are) but It cracked me up.

When Marvel first announced their plans for four separate Netflix shows leading to a mini-series “Defenders” crossover, the excitement was palpable. Cut to last year and “The Defenders” came out with a whimper, not a bang. The small screen Marvel series, which started off so strongly with both the first season of “Daredevil” and “Jessica […]

Amidst early reviews that suggest Netflix is on course to up it's count to 5 disappointing seasons of MCU shows against 2 successes with Jessica Jones Season 2 garnering only middling responses, Krysten Ritter has suggested the first casualty too with a second season of the build up event Defenders looking unlikely.

Following the film’s move up by a week, the earliest tracking figures for Marvel’s “Avengers: Infinity War” have come in with the movie headed towards an estimated $235 million domestic opening weekend. That would easily be the biggest for a Marvel movie to date, beating the $207.4 million of “The Avengers” in 2012, but would […]

On the flip side of the MCU coin, Avengers: Infinity War is projected for a domestic opening of $235m. This would be the biggest opening of any MCU entry to date

Following their multiple covers revealed earlier today, EW has debuted several new photos from “Avengers: Infinity War” which features shots of many of the heroes coming together for the first time. In the film a new danger has emerged from the shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six […]

Marvel seems to be not shying away from multiple characters being killed off in Avengers 3 and 4. Easy money seems to be at least on Stark, Vision and Cap

Well, I saw Black Panther yesterday.

Yeah. Good. Not in my top 5, but the imagery was startling. Standouts were the car chase, and the dreamy sequence with the cats in the astral plane. I appreciated the undercurrents of isolationalism vs globalism, civil unrest vs status quo, technology alongside tradition and the allusions to slavery. I can see why it’s struck a chord with a lot of people. Excellent performances from the cast all round, really.

Considering Vision IS one of the infinity stones, then something has to happen there...!

I still need to see Civil War, Ragnarok and Spidey Homecoming before Avengers 3 is released.

Several upcoming superhero projects have had updates today ranging from potential production start dates to shooting locations and contractual obligations. First up producer and director Greg Berlanti has offered a brief update on the “Booster Gold” comic adaptation at Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Films. The project has seemingly stalled in the development stage in […]

The actress playing Domino in Deadpool 2 has confirmed she is on a three movie contract that will presumably cover X-Force and Deadpool 3 also. Deadpool 2 is coming off the back of preview screenings that weren't too positive.

Meanwhile, Spider-Man 2 will begin filming in May

While the plans for the Marvel Cinematic Universe after the fourth “Avengers” next year remain murky, one film that’s a definite go is a sequel to this year’s mega smash hit “Black Panther”. Speaking with EW, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige confirmed that not only is a sequel a guarantee but there’s already a ‘pretty […]

Feige says Captain Marvel's 90's setting allows them to show Nick Fury's first exposure to superheroes and to make a movie that homage's 90's action movies

Did you not like the Korean casino sequence?
It had a one-shot vibe like The Protector or John Wick.

I couldn't give it props for the one-shot, you could too easily see where it was seamed with separate shots and effects work so they could emphasise agility. Wick is still the true nightclub king.

I kinda lumped in the nightclub scene with the car chase. Great stuff.
