Avatar: The Way of Water - Box Office Mojo
The second Avatar film had no drop in business at all in its third week as audiences stepped into theatres post-Xmas, a push that saw the film rise to $1.4bn worldwide.

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish - Box Office Mojo
That growth in trade also boosted Puss in Boots: The Last Wish by an even bigger margin as the feline led sequel pounced up to $135m worldwide

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever - Box Office Mojo
And like they say a rising tide lifts all ships, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever hitting $820m worldwide

Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody - Box Office Mojo
That saying not being that true with audiences proving that they don't particularly want to dance with Whitney, the film tailing off and now only hitting $25m worldwide

    Babylon - Box Office Mojo
Babylon suffered worse though, hitting only $10m this week.

This week there are no new releases giving Avatar 2 a fourth clear run

It's really surprised me how its got to 1.5B globally i don't know anyone who's been to see it and assumed it had just quietly died on its arse in the UK. With all the doom and gloom around train strikes and the cost of living and rising bills id of thought a film like this would really suffer over the Christmas period. It's had the season to itself though with Matilda being the only other big family film released so maybe its the perfect bit of escapism people needed. bloody horse ****ing space smurfs who'd of thunk it

            M3GAN - Box Office Mojo
Megan opened to $45m proving to be a huge hit as the film cost $12m to make so everything for the film over the coming weeks is pure green

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish - Box Office Mojo
The Puss in Boots sequel held steady and is now up to $197m worldwide

Megan will be expanding internationally this week so expect little change this week

              M3GAN - Box Office Mojo
Megan continued to hold strong in its second run as more markets opened up. The film is now up to $93m worldwide

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish - Box Office Mojo

Avatar the most confused box office film of all time, "yes the storys gash, the characters are rubbish but it looks amazing"

3 stars out of 5 a must see.

It's an interesting one, even for fairly middling stuff there's a couple of peeps at work who will watch it and talk about it. Avatar 2? Vacuum. No-one could be bothered to see it or if they had came away caring about it. It makes so much and yet carries so little weight in terms of mindset, no-one cares about the merchandise, no-one's asking where the Ubisoft game has gone etc. It's one of those films where I suppose it truly depends on the theatrical experience

It has more in common with a fairground ride than a film, Nobody wants merch or games for a roller-coaster but their happy to go along for the ride and forget about it ten minutes later. this analogy breaks down when you mention Jhony depps adventures in pirate land, but then comes back round full circle when you mention Disneys jungle cruise.

Looking at the highest grossing films of all time and Titanic is probably the most impressive result on there.

Though Avatar made more money the dependency on gimmick was much stronger, it made more but the reliance on not only the hype of 3D but on premium ticketing meant that it reached its figure on less tickets sold. It's also only officially No.1 because it's been rereleased so man times. Endgame beat it and is the culmination of 20+ films build up but likewise, whilst it depended less on premium tickets it wouldn't have come close without being effectively a culmination for multiple audiences rather than a film in its own right.

Nearly all the other films on the list are legacy sequels, remakes of already big hitters etc. Titanic was just popular. The gimmicky tickets came after its initial release and Titanic films etc weren't even new so it's not like the subject matter itself was the sole reason. I think for the next one on the list you have to go all the way to No.26 with Aquaman where I also can't really understand why that did so well.

By the looks though Avatar 2 should overtake Titanic to become the 3rd highest grossing film ever within the fortnight.

The film is only a fortnight away from fighting to for third place with Titanic, which will be seeing its own rerelease at theatres.

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish - Box Office Mojo
Puss in Boot: The Last Wish has hit $297m, just a whisker away from its next mark

                        M3GAN - Box Office Mojo

Avatar: The Way of Water - Box Office Mojo
We are about to enter February and Avatar: The Way of Water has hit $2.116bn worldwide pushing it into being the fourth highest grossing film of all time. At current rate of earning, the film should nip past Titanic within the next 7-10 days however that victory may be very short lived as the latter has its own rerelease scheduled for the 14 February.

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish - Box Office Mojo
The second Puss in Boots continues to claw its way up the earnings run with $334m hit this week

                          M3GAN - Box Office Mojo
And M3GAN hit $142m this week though it is likely to slow down hard now as some countries have begun to see VOD releases of the film made available

                          Plane - Box Office Mojo
Plane struggled to take off, the film sits on $29m worldwide despite solid reviews

The Fabelmans - Box Office Mojo
Whilst Spielberg may still have the critics wowed but he seems to have lost his touch with cinema audiences, following West Side Story's crash and burn figure of $76m, The Fabelman's is only up to a mere $25m

The Whale - Box Office Mojo
The Whale's previews and limited releases have it come in at $14m

This week see's a wider release for The Whale and the launch of Knock at the Cabin

Avatar: The Way of Water hit $2.174bn this week and overtook Titanic for its international haul. The figures suggest a slowdown though with the film looking to have a solid run again this weekend before other big releases such as Ant-Man force it off the screen meaning that the first original tally is starting to look to be out of reach.

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish - Box Office Mojo
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish rose to $368m this week continuing its long tail

As M3GAN hit $158m in another strong week considering it is now PVOD available in many countries

The Whale - Box Office Mojo
The Whale only managed to shore up a new total of $16m showing how awards fare doesn't sell anymore

Knock at the Cabin - Box Office Mojo
And Knock at the Cabin opened to $21m worldwide
