Also, Mario Kart 8 is arguably the highest selling game ever for Nintendo depending on how you look at the sales of Super Mario Bros. The only game Nintendo considers to be its other highest seller is Wii Sports which is a pretty farcicle crown to give given its real sales were effectively zero.

It's been lowkey but Biomutant has proven a hit selling over 1m copies and very quickly shifting into profit.

Meanwhile Outriders situation is starting to look troubled. Despite the buzz around its initial player figures, PS sales and launch on Game Pass Square has yet to pay People Can Fly for their work. The pay rests on the game earning beyond Square's own expenses on the game, as yet PCF have received no data or money leaning thoughts toward the game having failed to perform well enough. The player count on Steam has tailed off heavily meaning much will rest on how it's performed on Game Pass.

For clarification, that is just royalties. The developer will have been paid for monthly milestones like every other developer so they have been paid their development work costs but not royalties.

I hope Square Enix haven't pulled a sly one here and told them they get royalties on sales but then went and signed a game pass subscription deal with MS.

MS will have paid Square a tidy sum to have it on game pass day one so you'd hope PCF are entitled to a % of that fee.

I'm sure i read that it had strong sales on PlayStation and Xbox despite it being on game-pass, Most of the marketing was Microsoft pushing that they had a brand new franchise day one on game-pass so i don't imagine Square Enix paid for that much promotion as surely its Microsoft that foots the bill for that. I cant imagine that square would have sold it cheap to game-pass to it was getting good hype and good early impressions so it wasn't as if Square enix thought they had a lemon and where trying to recoup costs. It all points to creative accounting and Square screwing over the Dev.

*The US Dollar figures have been converted from Japanese Yen with exchange rate provided in Sony fiscal reports Source 1 / Source 2 Highlights : Q2 FY21: Over $5.86B Revenue and $0.751B Profit between July-Sept 2021 Biggest Q2 Revenue ever for PlayStation (and for any platform holder) Top 3...

Following on from MS's figures yesterday, Sony has released its Q2 financial results to reveal:

-Q2 2021 was PlayStations most profitable Q2 quarter ever and the most profitable of any platform holder ever
-It was the second highest earning non-holiday quarter ever for any platform holder
-The sixth biggest revenue in a quarter for any platform holder ever in any financial quarter ever
-The third best operating profit for PlayStation during Q2 ever
-The seventh best operating profit for PlayStation in any quarter ever

76.4m units of software were sold with 62% of sold games being via digital. PlayStation Store had its biggest Q2 revenue ever. They also had 104m monthly active users. Sony is also sticking with its Q3 projection of having the biggest revenue intake for any platform holder in the history of gaming.

Hardware sales - 0.2 million units of PlayStation 4 were sold which kind of cements the system is now fully in its end of life cycle. What were people buying instead? PlayStation 5 - with 3.3m units sold during the quarter.

                        The new hardware chart:

                        01 - PlayStation 4 - 116.60m
                        02 - Switch - 91.14m
                        03 - Xbox One - 50.21m

                        05 - Xbox Series S/X - 7.31m

Across Sony all of its divisions reported strong results. Also - despite supply issues on new hardware Sony was able to ship its 13.4m PS5 units which was only just behind the 13.8m that PS4 shipped in the same timeframe.

RDR2 is slowing down now, it sold a 'mere' 1m in the last quarter to reach lifetime sales of 39m
Take 2's operating income dropped from $115m to $20m . Apparently that's due to higher R&D costs and a cancelled project...

If PlayStations and Xboxes are selling out everywhere, and Xbox has sold 7.3m, is MS building less Xboxes? If so, why?
