THEY NEVER HAD ANYTHING EXCEPT A LOGO!

I don't have a problem with any of that. I'd rather have a great game in a year or two than a PoS sooner.

It's not like I've got nothing to play in the meantime.

There are so many reason that this is good news that you could put them all into a giant list. Let's do that shall we:
    1. Nintendo have been honest and open with the fans for once.
    2. They apparently care more that the game is good than about the money already invested and any potential fan outrage.
    3. Retro is now involved, so the game is in safer hands.
    4. The fans have reacted extremely, surprisingly well to this news for the above reasons. This encourages Nintendo to be more open in future.
    5. The chances of getting Metroid Prime Trilogy on Switch probably just went up.
    6. Maybe this is a precursor to a Direct? Would make sense to explain the absence of Prime 4 before a no show in the Direct.

Apparently, when they were showing off the 85% complete game to Nintendo of Japan, the developer said "Now you can press down on the d-pad to turn Shamus into the Morph Ball". Nintendo: "Wait, who?" - Development scrapped.

I mean, I'm fine with this because like Dogg Thang says, there was never anything to it for fans in the first place but a logo. It always seemed bewildering that anyone ever thought this thing was anywhere near a release anyway. As it is, going back to Retro is a good move though I can't help but again think they must have something wrapped up for this year to have the resources to dedicate to it given the lack of output they've had since Tropical Freeze.

In the long run it'll be for the best but I think it'd be very, very wise for fans to get it in their heads from the off that you're not going to be playing this game for the next 3-4 years and quite possibly never on Switch at all.

It's okay though, this is the year of Luigi's Mansion 3 after all.

Yep, it could end up being one of those end of system games that ends up on the Switch but only on a technicality because it's pushed more as a launch title for a new system.

And yeah, overall this is good news. Going back to Retro is fantastic and gives me more faith in it. My issue is only that they announced it way too early in the first place. They really did have nothing more than a logo and it felt like a quickfire announcement to give fans something, anything to hope for. And with this happening, I almost feel like they just didn't knuckle down to make it because it was never really a real thing. Whereas now they are realising they have to somehow produce it. And under those circumstances, where we are today is really the best outcome.

But I won't be surprised if it turns out that Metroid Prime 4 has been nothing more than a logo and a question mark scribbled on a whiteboard for the last year.

Why would anyone have not used Retro in the first place for the project?

You do you Nintendo and Iíll take a look once youíve released some more games and sorted yourself out in 5 years or so, k.
