    -Day of the Moon-
Second part and this one dives right in having copped out of the cliff hangers from the first part but it has a consistently strong air to it carried over from part one. The Silence work well as villains, they're a little too passive but the darker toned scenes are effective and the originally frustrating lack of closure feels more natural given the story flows all the way through this series with the breadcrumbs neatly laid out. Though simple and an obvious one due to too much sign posting, the closing shot of the little girl regenerating is still a great closing moment too.

-The Curse of the Black Spot-
This pirate themed episode starts off on an okay foot with everyone trying to avoid any form of injury so the siren doesn't come for them but ticks along on filler fodder status until the sci-fi turn occurs and then the episode falls flat for the rest of its run time. It's not bad so much as dispensable.

        -The Doctor's Wife-
The episode where a sentient world living outside the universe draws the Doctor in then traps the Tardis consciousness into a human body. The concept of finally giving the Doctor and the Tardis's relationship a voice is brilliantly handled with only the Amy and Rory side story feeling a little unnecessary at times. The episode plays with the known dynamic of the Doctor's life well and a mere few lines of dialogue in this episode easily explains 50 years of adventures he finds his way into. Really, really good.

          -The Rebel Flesh-
Starts off okay with it's set up for living flesh that workers use to create piloted clones etc but once the full duplication is set up it slips into a much more mundane humans v clones story that wears thin without even considering the second half. It's overly padded for the sake of the reveal next episode.

            -The Almost People-
The second parter, which is very run of the mill, see's half the twinned characters killed off but bar one exception in a convenient way that leaves one of each remaining. It also feels like it acts as another regenerations back door to return without needing to go into explaining the how. Very standard fare with a brief but decent closing scene.

-A Good Man Goes to War-
From here on we enter the era when the BBC though splitting the series in half was a good idea along with screwing around with the scheduling and so we end up with these mid-season episodes that set up the back arc. The episode is fine enough, finally giving the River Song reveal formally, but it's trying to cover too much before the break and so despite how much happens it lacks the weight it should have.

                -Let's Kill Hitler-
The secret of River Song continues to be played out and this pretty much ties a bow around almost everything. It felt so stupid at the time but in the here and now, this light episode works out pretty well getting past its initial daftness to play the drama card well. The robot stuff drags it down but not enough to stop this being a strong one for the series.

                -Night Terrors-
The one with the council flat boy who's scared and people get turned into living dolls (Cliff!). It's run of the mill stuff and the kid playing George is still a horrific actor, but none offensive overall.

                -The Girl Who Waited-
Another episode that runs with a time stream concept but in doing so once again shows how Amy was never good enough for Rory. It's fine but there's little sense of tension as you're waiting for the redo button and the obvious character moment at the end is ever dealt with as it should have been.

                  -The God Complex-
This is the episode set in the endless Hotel where you see your worst fear before being preyed on by a monster. There are a couple of nice moments between the Doctor and one or two others, some allusions to the past and future including the handling of said monster but it's otherwise very run of the mill and thrown tonally off by a distracting appearance from David Walliams

                    -Closing Time-
The second James Cordon episode swaps his girlfriend for a baby called Stormageddon (Alfie) in a tale of Cybermen that plays out pretty straight forward. It's very much following up on the previous series episode with a lot of it hanging on Matt Smith who's in full command as the Doctor by now. It all plays out in an easy to watch but predictable manner.

                      -The Wedding of River Song-
This plays out alright until the undo button at the end occurs. It's a decent episode and overall the series arc works better on revisit and makes more sense second time around than it did the first making for another overall good run for Smith. However, the main issue is that fundamentally this feels like the same story as the previous series' finale but not as well told.

-The Doctor, The Widdow and the Wardrobe-
The series 6 xmas special is very fluff like for just over half of it and goes all out for schmaltz in a very simple tale of getting off a tree planet before it burns through acid rain. Even on re-view though the last twenty minutes might go for the heart strings but it does it well and elevates the special above the vast majority of other specials they've done at Christmas.

MSN have posted a list of twenty four actors who have been reportedly offered the role of the Doctor over its 50+ years and turned it down. Key ones include Brian Blessed who turned down the Second Doctor (which would have definitely been my fave of all time), Ron Moody for the Third Doctor (which he apparently later regretted), Jim Dale for the Third Doctor, Peter Cook and Hugh Grant as the Ninth Doctor

There's a 500 episode Doctor Who marathon running on Twitch currently - not sure how long it's been going, but it's an early episode with William Hartnell at the mo https://www.twitch.tv/twitchpresents

                            -Asylum of the Daleks-
The Doctor, Amy and Rory are captured and forced to go to the Dalek's dumping ground for their failed conversions. The set up is solid and the introduction of Clara here is so well done that she never manages to be this good again. It never quite hits the heights it could have but as the first episode of the season it's nice to not go in with something silly as usual.

                            -Dinosaurs on a Spaceship-
Here's the sillier one, it should be an outright failure but it holds together due to being so flightly and easy going. The dino's add little but the central play between the Doc and this eps baddy works out fine enough to carry it.

                            -A Town Called Mercy-
The wild west town episode where the towns folk are penned in by a cyborg hunter who wants an alien who has taken refuge there. Once again, the character play could elevate this but it's serving too many ideas and things it wants to cover to never devotes enough time to land anything beyond the basics to keep this being once again a light and easy ep to watch.

                              -The Power of Three-
Boxes arrive on Earth for a year which the Doctor finds dull, so does the audience. This is a weak one, telling us what we already know, life without the Doctor is normal. Irritatingly Rory's Dad sets up the promise to keep Amy and Rory safe and it's annoying that that is never followed up on knowing how the next episode pans out.

                                -The Angels of Manhattan-
Amy and Rory's farewell episode is mostly middling, there's some alright moments in the mix but the parts that could do with more focus such as the cost the events have for River are hugely under delivered as an expense of spending more time trying to be clever with time travel tricks and flickering lights. It's mostly due to the Angels being utterly over used by the show by this point to the degree that they've lost all effect, a fact not helped by the Liberty Angel which is still eye rolling. The result is an alright episode that doesn't quite land as much as it should have as their farewell.
