Following Disney winning the bidding to buy Fox, and then Comcast winning the bidding to buy Sky - Comcast is reported to be preparing to sell its 30% ownership of Hulu to Disney which would give the mouse house a 90% share of the streaming service.Comment

Warners has decided to keep the DCU Service restricted to the USA only meaning they have to have other services show its shows outside the US. It's like Star Trek: Discovery and highlights what a mess digital service subscriptions are going to become in coming years.Comment

Yep. In the short term, it's our gain here but splitting rights across territories is messy (yet seemingly still necessary) business and tends to lead to restrictions and legal messing later on where a show might be available in one place and yet vanishes everywhere else. Having multiple streaming services splitting content will ultimately mean we lose out. Having multiple streaming services that vary hugely from territory to territory will basically just be local pay TV channels. Then some will come in and offer bundles and you'll be paying your Sky subscription all over again.Comment

Amazon is double dipping on fantasy following the greenlight the LOTR series received and has picked up a series based on The Wheel of Time. The fourteen novels long series will follow Moiraine, the lead character in a world where magic exists but only women can use it.Comment

Up until the Bordersdown Purge the Netflix Recommendations thread was mostly just that but with the explosion of services it makes less sense to have one thread for Netflix and another for other services so in future, instead of posting Netflix news in the recommendations discussion thread I'll keep I tall under one roof in here. As such:
Netflix has signed a multi-year deal to create multiple series and movies for the service adapting the Chronicles of Narnia series. Presumably this kills the planned belated sequel that was in the works. Netflix owns the adaptation rights now to all seven books.Comment
