Batman has stopped filming. How does all this work? Presumably the cast and crew have things to do in the winter already so getting things back in place would surely be difficult.

Because every studio has been affected across the board it seems like almost every production including those that hadn't started yet are being rearranged. Some previous winter productions may go ahead but many will knocked back to accomodate partially finished ones. I imagine studios will be doing a lot of negotiating between each other to fit around crew schedules etc but effectively we're looking at upwards of a years delay for the entire cinema slate of 2020-2022

There is going to be a hell of a lot of blockbusters coming out this winter, assuming cinemas are open by then!

It will and it might be a little full-on but it does mean when cinemas can start opening again I'll be going regularly to catch several of the films that have been pushed back from the Spring slate (to support the industry and have a good run of decent films to watch continuously for 3-4 months).

I wonder if cinemas will push their monthly passes if there's a deluge of things to watch.

I have a suspicion (and I'm often wrong about these things, if I'm honest) that this movie would have bombed. But regardless, I can't help feeling that any movie going straight to a service like this will be so devalued that it will kill the franchise. Completely different for, say, a Marvel movie that already has built that franchise but, for film one of what will no doubt be intended to be a large run of movies, I'd say this won't be the way to do it.

Great news. Aspect ratio respect is important ... and so is a company that listens to user feedback.

On the topic of Frozen, I'm annoyed that Frozen II features so extensively in the Disney+ promo material when it isn't actually on the service until July.

In some unsurprising news, Universal Pictures’ release of “Trolls World Tour” direct to digital as well as in the twenty-one drive-in theaters that remain open North America, has become the biggest debut of a digital title of all time. Universal Pictures has released its “Trolls World Tour” film on Premium VOD this week, the animated sequel having its world premiere on services like iTunes and Amazon where it has become the first real major release to debut in a potential ‘new norm’ format. Many eyes are watching the film’s success and seeing how it […]

Many wondered how Disney’s squeaky clean family-friendly image would carry over to its Disney+ streaming service and how they would deal with their own classic and more adult-focused Touchstone Pictures titles. The answer seemed to be to keep the non-kiddie stuff set aside for Hulu, though there have been exceptions such as “Splash”. Ron Howard’s […]
