It’s not just North American TV productions that are shutting down due to coronavirus pandemic concerns. Netflix has hit pause on production at Arborfield Studios in the U.K. of the second season of its fantasy drama “The Witcher” for two weeks as a result of the coronavirus outbreak. Netflix will continue to pay staff during […]

Filming has been suspended on The Witcher: Season 02, Peaky Blinders: Season 06, Line of Duty: Season 06, Amazon's The Lord of the Rings and The Orville: Season 03

With Universal Pictures having compressed the window of film-to-VOD releases due to the coronavirus pandemic, it now looks like others are following suit. Fandango as spotted that both Guy Ritchie’s dark comedy crime caper “The Gentlemen” and Cathy Yan’s DC Comics adaptation “Birds of Prey” will hit Digital HD early with both moving up their […]

Additionally, the movies The Gentlemen and Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn will be early released on streaming VOD services on 24 March

DreamWorks Animation and Netflix’s “She-Ra and the Princesses of Power” series has announced that its upcoming fifth season will be the show’s last. In the fifth season, the ruthless Horde Prime has arrived and without the Sword of Protection and She-Ra, the Rebellion are facing their toughest challenge yet. Unexpected adversaries are confronted and relationships […]

She-Ra and the Princess of Power: Season 05 will launch on Netflix on 15 May 2020 and will be the final season

HBO’s sci-fi drama “Westworld” returned on Sunday night for a third season, pulling in 901,000 total viewers to the live broadcast – a 57% dip from the 2.1 million who watched the second season premiere and the show’s lowest viewership tally to date. The episode pulled in a total of 1.7 million viewers across HBO’s […]

Contrary to the TV viewing boosts that we're seeing due to the virus, one show that hasn't enjoyed that same uplift was the debut of Westworld: Season 03. Figures were down by a huge 57% but it's hoped it will see big gains as self-isolation sets in.

With most TV productions having shut down abruptly in the past week or so due to concerns over the coronavirus pandemic, most with still at least 1-4 episodes of their season left to film, a new report at Vulture has gone into what happens next. Executives at the major broadcast TV networks (ABC, NBC, CBS, […]

As we're hearing about TV shows shutting down production it is being said by Execs that it is highly unlikely that most will resume filming due to the costs and issues involved meaning current seasons will simply abruptly end. This obviously causes issues for shows that are already in their final season meaning they are unable to finish their runs. Reportedly, faced with this issue the crew of The 100 have decided to continue filming and are expected to complete the season within a week. Supernatural: Season 15 has ended filming with around 2 unfilmed episodes remaining and no decision made about their future. Personally, given the history of the show and past comments from the head of CW I'd be surprised if the final episodes weren't ultimately made even if it means pushing them to the 2021 schedule making them effectively a short run event TV Movie/Season 16.

As movie theaters close around the country, Sony is the latest studio set to make a theatrical release available early. 'Bloodshot,' the new Vin Diesel film from Sony's Columbia Pictures, will be available for digital purchase March 24.

Isn’t the new Trolls movie now bypassing cinema completely and going VOD? I think I read that. That would have made good money in the cinema under normal circumstances so it will be interesting to see how VOD compares.

Yep and with Pixar's Onward getting all its screens cut at just $100m made there's already rumours it could be forced to go Disney+

HBO Max’s high-profile “Friends” reunion special has been inevitably delayed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Filming of the untitled unscripted reunion special has set a new date which, should it happen, will still see the special be ready in time for the launch of the new streaming service sometime in late May. The situation […]

Turns out it isn’t just “Birds of Prey” that Warner Bros. Pictures is moving up the VOD food chain. Here’s a little oddity of our current situation - The European Union is calling on streaming services including Netflix and YouTube to scale back their offering in order to keep broadband networks from crashing.

Almost every studio has collapsed the home video window on existing 2020 film releases in the past two weeks in order to get them to Digital HD much sooner. It’s an understandable move with cinemas closed for at least 6-12 weeks due to the coronavirus pandemic, and even the head of the exhibition trade association […]

With the current pandemic leading to the closure of cinemas and the heavy push of movies to VOD services well ahead of their time the Head of the Exhibitor Trade Association says that he understands the big studios needs to protect themselves during this time even though his usual role to protect cinemas and the usual exclusivity window they enjoy. However, he says there is one exception which is Trolls: World Tour.

Studios have quickly released films that briefly saw a cinema release and heavily delayed those that didn't. Trolls: World Tour is a sole exception because it hasn't been released in cinemas but is still coming to VOD on its theatrical release date. First he says that Universal are still advertising it as coming to VOD and cinemas on 10 April which is lying to the consumer but also that this move is effectively a betrayal of the usual agreed model and that the Exhibitors Trade Association will not forget it when cinemas reopen and Universal are seeking to reestablish their slate.

Messiah Netflix has canceled its very mixed reviewed “Messiah” series after one season with series star Wil Traval sharing the news on Instagram. Netflix reportedly did not feel confident producing a show that required so many international locations given the current state of things with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Michelle Monaghan played a CIA officer […]

While originally stopping for just two weeks, various film productions are going to be grounded for a bit longer than that due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. So it comes as little surprise that many of next year’s biggest films, which were all due to be shooting around about now, are already pushing their film’s […]

Not a TV update but it's wide reaching. Essentially most major films for 2021 and 2022 are looking likely to see extensive delays across the board.
