I’m not too certain what the First Ministers goal is with this statement today. She may just be trying to placate more rabid Indy campaigners and settle things a bit before the forthcoming SNP conference.
People all over the UK are sick of politics just now and that’s likely to backfire for the independence campaign.

It does feel like silencing some of her more ardent Independence pushers is the main thing with this, but she's probably also playing May as well. She's been very outspoken on how much May ignores her and Scotland during the whole of Brexit so she's probably trying to capture some attention and is hoping that if May things a Referendum is inevitable that she'll prefer allowing one over her deal over having one that could break up the UK

My eyes just rolled so hard they did a 360 and went straight again.

The SNP has voted to create a Scottish independent currency as soon as possible in the event of Independence.

Yeah, that was one of the things which scuppered them the previous time around; they didn't have concrete plans for it.

There already is a currency ready to go for an independent Scottish nation. It’s called the Euro.

Hopefully it succeeds and then I can apply for Scottish citizenship

Do Scotland really think that once they leave the UK the EU will welcome them with open arms?
The EU will want at least a decade of evidence of a stable market and currency before even looking at them, and since they don't have a stock exchange anymore and won't be using the Pound as a currency I think it will take much longer.

Brexit has likely really pushed back any urgency from the EU as well, beforehand it was seen as helping them out and easy because Scotland aligned with EU rules already but after Brexit that won't be true anymore as a slew of rules, regulations, tariff etc changes will have been implemented before Scotxit would happen. After that Scotland couldn't just realign, it'd have to position itself best for what worked whilst it floated alone in the world and that makes them just like any other country in the world. The trouble with Scottish Independence is it's not in Scotlands interests, it's rooted in the same misguided us vs them attitude as a portion of the Brexiteer vote is. People wanting to leave because of 'dem English bar stewards in Westminster'. An independent Scotland would get utterly slaughtered.

They banked on it last time but their argument fell apart as it's only a temporary revenue in effect and Scotland lacks anything that can replace it. The year after the last vote Oil revenues collapsed and exposed how Scotland would have been dealt an instant battering if they'd have voted to go solo, they're screwed if they go solo in effect but the one thing that's changed is the UK's obsession now with screwing everyone anyway meaning Scotland has reason to think they have little to lose again.
