David Henry Hwang (“M. Butterfly”) has been hired to pen the live-action musical “Hunchback” for Disney Pictures. The film will be an adaptation of the original novel by Victor Hugo and pull elements from Disney’s 1996 animated “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” movie. Oscar winners Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz will write the music for […]

Disney continues to begin these projects as fast as they release them with word that The Hunchback of Notre Dame is the latest adaptation to be added to their slate

        First trailer for Aladdin

Do you know what, it was actually looking alright. Then I saw Genie... and I think I may actually have nightmares about that later

Is he CG because those little ear add-ons are too expensive to make?

Edit: I have reliably been informed by a friend in VFX that it's because an average vfx artist's salary is less than the cost of a pot of blue paint.

This has the potential to be bad. Will Smith looked all kinds of wrong and something about the lighting maybe just makes the whole trailer look surreal, like its on stage.

In a surprise announcement, Disney Pictures has confirmed that its sequel to “Maleficent,” the Angelina Jolie-led live-action “Sleeping Beauty” adaptation, is coming out much earlier than expected. Originally slated for a May 29th 2020 opening, the film has now been moved up seven months and will open this year – October 18th 2019. The film […]

Moved up by 7 months, the sequel has a title and its name is Maleficent: Mistress of Evil opening 24 October 2019

Nicole Kidman, Emma Thompson, Charlize Theron, Julianne Moore and Demi Moore are all reportedly in the running to play the antagonist in Disney’s live-action “101 Dalmatians” prequel film “Cruella”. “I, Tonya” director Craig Gillespie will helm the project from a script from Tony McNamara (“The Favourite”) with filming to begin this summer. Emma Stone is […]

So, Emma Stone will be playing Estella, the character who transforms into Cruella as part of an epic piece of miscasting meaning Disney is still on the hunt for someone to play the films main villainess. The film is a prequel and will be set in London during the 1970's. Emma Thompson, Demi Moore, Nicole Kidman, Julianne Moore and Charlize Theron are said to be under consideration.

Dumbo looks to have received a kicking in reviews which will make its box office interesting to see, might help give Shazam a leg up

Took the kids to see Dumbo today. Surprisingly good ... definitely the best thing Tim Burton has made for a while. The original story is expanded upon nicely and the film has lashings of lovely vintage circus imagery and an impressive retro-futuristic location too.

2 minutes later and here probably is the problem as highlighted on Era, it's the realistic stylings of the remake:

Simba being blamed by Scar for the death of Mufasa and scared away from the Pride lands

Impressive benchmark in CG but utterly void of character and emotion

Much simpler due to handdrawn animation but reeks of character and emotional response

Disney is reinventing one of its politically incorrect songs for the upcoming live-action “Lady and the Tramp” reboot, and have enlisted Grammy winner Janelle Monae and her colleagues to help them. Monae has a voice role in the film but it has now been announced she will also perform two original songs for it, along […]

Disney has cut the Siamese Cats from the remake of Lady and the Tramp and as such their song is being replaced

The first reactions to two of May’s biggest film titles have gone online. First up, Disney’s “Aladdin” has screened with a few outlets offering social media reactions which are positive overall if often with some hesitancy. More enthusiastic however are the reactions to Mike Dougherty’s “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” with the reactions positively glowing […]

Early reactions for Aladdin seem to fall under 'positive' but with some wavering
