Critics Club II: 36 - Jodie Foster

It puts the voting in the poll for...

    Jodie Foster

Vote for the movie you feel is their best whilst also discussing their other work, your reasons for voting and thoughts on what is their weakest.

Some will have very long lists so some trimming will be required to focus on the key entries but broadly the main selection will be available each time.

Taxi Driver and Silence of the Lambs are two of my favourite films but I'm going to go for Silence as she's a much bigger part of it.

Stealing Home was a guilty pleasure of mine many years ago

Contact. A great film and a great performance.

Amazing in Silence of the Lambs, fun in Bugsy Malone, a bit cringy as a love interest but a fun character in Maverick but I think for me the role I was rooting for her throughout and loved her character as a scientist in Contact. Only saw it for the first time last year after years of Asura comparing a lot of films to be inferior to it over and OVER again. He was right, it was better than Arrival.

Looking forward to what Asura has to say about this, Maverick and Contact mentioned in a single topic?!?

Maverick, I feel, is an interesting movie for anyone who has an interest in moviemaking in terms of actors and casting.

Gibson and Foster have really quite amazing performances in it. Everyone does; even Coburn lights up the screen.

However, despite all their effort, Foster and Gibson can't conceal that they have absolutely zero chemistry. It's meant to be comical, and given, there are some funny moments, but it just doesn't work. It isn't quite Anakin and Padme in Star Wars (blleeuurrrggghhh) but it's still a blight upon what's otherwise a good movie. It has some very funny turns and it's extremely well-paced. It makes a great "Sunday afternoon" film.
