The fifth and most recent “Transformers” film, “Transformers: The Last Knight,” famously aimed to kick off a planned cinematic universe of “Transformers” films including more direct sequels. When it crashed and burned both at the box-office and critically, those plans were shelved with one exception. That was “Bumblebee,” the 1980s set spin-off which was said […]

Following strong reviews for Bumblebee the films producer has confirmed that the original canon is set to continue rather than be rebooted and that the sixth main line entry is in development. Hopefully they will take strong note of the new films reactions.

But I thought the Bumblebee film was a reboot?

That's a bad PR move. I was gonna go see it; now I'll stay away!

So many contradicting opinions on whether this is a sequel, prequel, reboot, soft reboot, preboot, whatever!

Rumors of a Transformers reboot have been exaggerated...although the next movie will take the series in a very different direction.

"Rumors of a Reboot Have Been Grossly Exaggerated
“Reboot” is one of those words the media likes to throw around. It applied to Casino Royale and Batman Begins because they completely started those franchises over from scratch. But just because a franchise is changing course doesn’t mean it’s a reboot. X-Men: First Class was called a reboot, but the original X-Men cast returned for the next one.

“Reboot, I always hate that word because for one, I’m not sure I really understand what it means,” producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura said. “We are going to do another big Transformers movie. It is going to be different than the ones that we’ve done before.”

          Course Correction
The Last Knight was a franchise low at the box office, so it’s no surprise the producers have paid attention. Just by virtue of hiring a director who isn’t Michael Bay, the next Transformers is going to be different.

“It’s not like we look at the elements of what we did before and go, ‘Well, let’s not do this’ or ‘Let’s not do that,’” Di Bonaventura said. “It’s more about how do you evolve the experience for the fans. Let the fan have a new experience.”

Something new from the previous five Michael Bay movies in a row won’t necessarily be a reboot, but it will be an evolution. In a way, just doing a live-action Transformers was an evolution in 2007.

“When we did the first movie, at first there was a lot of pushback that we weren’t doing it the way it was done before, “Di Bonaventura said. “My feeling was always that if we’d done it, you would’ve gone, ‘Well, I’ve already seen it.’ So how do you evolve things forward is I think the hardest thing because you’ve got to retain why people love it, but at the same time if you give them the same experience, they’re going to be bored with it.”"

          Other news:
Following information submitted to the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) we've now learned that Bumblebee's age rating certificate has been lowered from a 12-A (no one under twelve years of age without Adult Supervision) to a PG rating (Parental

"Transformers: Bumblebee Movie recut to achieve PG rating for UK release

Following information submitted to the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) we've now learned that Bumblebee's age rating certificate has been lowered from a 12-A (no one under twelve years of age without Adult Supervision) to a PG rating (Parental Guidance advised). Thus certificate will increase the chance that more families will see the film when it opens on the 26th of December in the UK. It appears as though footage was cut to make this change as the new running time is now 113 mins and 38 seconds, the amount of footage lost is minimal."

I'm actually really looking forward to this! It's the second Transformers film I've ever seen!

I think they're quite smart by having a smaller number of robots and they've got primary colours to make them more distinguishable.

(Spoiler of the bad guys' transformation)

Nope, prequel, it's almost a miracle it turned out so well for it as it was mostly already in the can when Last Knight crashed into cinemas

My word, talk about bull****ting. That person should be a politician.

"We're changing it but it isn't a reboot"

              WORDS have MEANING.

"I'm having a glass of water but it isn't hydration."
"I'm going on a trip but it isn't 'travel', per se."
              "I'm ****ing your mother but I'm not a mother****er."

This is Trump-culture in action. It's doublethink. They want "the good things" without people thinking about "the bad things", so they're saying **** like this.

Take a deep breath, dude. It's all good!

He's just hedging his bets for a sequel and covering all the bases.

People who've seen it say it's a reboot with this being Bumblebee's origins on Earth, ignoring all the other films.
People who've seen it say it's either the best or best since the first TF film, so let's just take that away.

Hopefully it's the new best, even the original TF isn't very good

                    Bumblebee
First of the three films I watched on Saturday. What to say? Well, you're socks are going to stay firmly on your feet rather than blown off by the film but overall it probably is the best of the six existing entries. One or two sequences are fascinating and reek of War/Fall of Cybertron, the classic elements are exactly that and show how easily the films could have always been this way. It's a prequel for sure but overall it could just as easily pass as a remake of the first film, it's smaller scale but overall a very similar beat. There's humour to the characters still as well but it never goes into Bayness with it, the casting of Cena is the closest to a rocky one. As far as going forward, it's a good plate cleanse for the franchise. There's a lot to take from this going forward purely in terms of filmmaking, the film isn't that distinct from what's gone before so it seems unlikely it will carry the franchise impact it probably should.

Appearing at a Las Vegas conference as part of the Citi TMT West Conference, Viacom CEO Bob Bakish reportedly congratulated Paramount Pictures for a successful turnaround with its films. He specifically cited the “Transformers” franchise as an example, saying “Bumblebee” will be “solidly profitable” as opposed to its predecessor “Transformers: The Last Knight” which opened […]

Viacom's CEO says he's pleased with Bumblebee despite it being the lowest grossing Transformers movie and says it's been solidly profitable for the company. He says Last Knight lost $100m though it seems the maths needs working out on that one.

While Aquaman's success has been the one we've waxed poetic about the most over the last several weeks, Paramount's Bumblebee has quietly been the little engine that could.

Bumblebee 2 is reported to be in development

TFW2005 team is at New York Toy Fair 2019, for the Hasbro Product Presentation where all the cool reveals take place. We are going to update this news post periodically and the last update time is denoted below; so that you’ll know when to take a look after the jump. As with last year, no pics allowed at...

                          Optimus Prime:
"Calling all Autobots, we stand together on the brink of our defeat at the hands of the merciless forces of the Decepticons. Our enemies have killed many of comrades and destroyed much of our cinematic universe. We stand now, alone against the oncoming dark - faced with our only remaining option for survival. Together we will take our most recent prequel and use it to annex all previous efforts from our canon, thus creating a newly rebooted cinematic universe to call our own. Roll out!"

Yes, Hasbro has officially announced that Transformers 1-5 have been cut from the existing canon and that the recent Bumblebee is moved from being a tie-in prequel to become a restart for the entire franchise. Yes, all the TF characters are once again alive and those G1 designs can survive!

But doesn't the design of bumblebee follow quite close to the Bay 'junkbots' design?

A fair bit yep, they cleaned it up as best they could but ultimately pull it towards Bay to tie in. Hopefully follow up keep things 80's onwards based and veer things towards the G1 designs as the Cybertron sequences were glorious.
