Critics Club II: 42 - Bill Murray

When you need a deadpan sardonic delivery, who ya' gonna call?

    Bill Murray

Vote for the movie you feel is their best whilst also discussing their other work, your reasons for voting and thoughts on what is their weakest.

Some will have very long lists so some trimming will be required to focus on the key entries but broadly the main selection will be available each time.

Groundhog Day. Perfect casting, perfect performance, and the closest thing to perfect film imo. And it wouldn't be without Murray at the heart of it. I honestly wish I could bottle how it makes me feel.

Groundhog day for me too. Its a modern classic. Never fails to make me re-evaluate my life.

Going for Lost In Translation and it might be hard to describe why. My sister hates that movie. She says it's "too looky". As in, people just look at each other for large chunks of the movie. Same for Drive. And she's right. And for me, there isn't a huge amount to that movie. But Murray is captivating. A lot of the movie is just him in pretty environments and I love it. He draws me right in. There is something special about Bill Murray. He's great in everything and he just pulls me in but Lost In Translation allows him to do it with very few distractions. Less actual movie made it even more special for me. Does that make any sense?

But yeah, Groundhog Day is absolutely brilliant. He's amazing in Ghostbusters obviously and in everything he has done with Wes Anderson. He really is something special. There aren't many like him.

I really like him in Zombieland!

Lost in Translation is a good shout, too.

Love Ghostbusters, but what Atticus says is so true and I think that's my vote too.
Ironic that it's a film I can watch over and over and over...

Groundhog Day is probably one of my most watched DVDs, but as good as that is, St Vincent is by far a better told story and one I think peaks Lost in Translation, a film mostly about an ungrateful wife

Cannot just pick one... I love Bill Murray... Legend.

I make my wife watch Scrooged every Christmas and she hates him... So I guess I'll go for that.

I'll be honest, the best thing for me about Scrooged is The Day The Reindeer Died and Murray isn't even in that bit!

For relaxing times, make it "Lost In Translation" times.

Scrooged is my second favourite Christmas movie ever!!

I watched Lost In Translation last year and forgot just how good it is.
On a side note, I want his ring tone from this film.
