Critics Club II: The Grand Final

It's here, the Grand Final of Critics Club II. 60 major name Hollywood stars have had their life's work picked apart and now their finest hours face off to decide which was the best of them all.

An outline for a simpler Critics Club III exists but for now we complete our second step in cementing the greatest in film. The first time we looked at finding the best work of the most successful Directors, this time (though you could keep this going forever given how many actors and actresses there's been) it's the work of those starring in the films:

Which actors finest work was the greatest of them all?

My heart wants to give it to Bruce Campbell for Evil Dead II, and he sure worked hard for it, but my head says it is Stallone in Rocky. Rarely has a character had so much heart and, as the action hero type, Stallone rarely gets enough credit for just how good he can be. That role shows it.

This is an amazing effort that leads to a massive payoff!

      I'll peruse the list.

Really tough but i'm going to go left field with Jim Carrey in The Truman Show.
Here was an actor who was only known for slapstick comedy before this film. It came off the back of Liar Liar which was his most successful film and the tendency would be to carry on doing comedy because of this, but he chose something different.
Although its not his most serious role, he used his comedic talents to create a warm and likable character that pulled the audience along; wanting him to find out the truth. I would argue the film is now a 'modern classic' and it finds itself in top 100 movie lists because of Jim Carrey. Man on the moon and Eternal Sunshine followed this film, but this was the first in which he showed his acting credentials.

Even before the poll list appeared I knew what I was going for. De Niro is so amazing in Taxi Driver ... has to be one of the most natural, believable performances I've ever seen.

I set the poll to automatically close meaning entries are now done!

The Actor's Finest Hour, as voted for, is... Sylvester Stallone in Rocky
