Day 1
Jack the Giant Killer (1962, not the musical rework). Can't have seen this since I was 10 or 11, still magical.
Honorable mentions to Monolith Monsters (1957), It Came from Outer Space (1953) and Invaders from Mars (1953). Breaking the 'rules' a bit...I'm in the midst of movie kick, these won't go elsewhere for me, and are too good not to list. Love all three!

Day 2
Bond also. Wanted to go for Dr. No, the card game scene, that introduction, that music, but it's a few mins in.
So
A Lego remake of the opening scene from Casino Royale. Carefully and painstakingly remade, frame for frame! More Lego videos at http://www.bricktease.comAlso...
Lego Casino Royale intro. Only Lego remake I've watched, love it.
Honorable mention to From Russia with Love intro.
Day 3
Just going to sit down to another Kerwin Mathews classic
The 7th Voyage of Sinbad (1958)
Great story, great hero, awesome villain, cyclopes, Roc, dragon, skeleton warrior, what more do you need!

I'll play catch up...
Day 1:
Also Batman Returns. I remember begging my parents to take me to cinema to see it, but I was too young. They got me the graphic novel of the film instead, which was nice.
Day 2:
If you want best opening 'scene', then Terminator 2. If you want best opening credits then Terminator 2.
Day 3:
Easy...2001.

Day 01 - Snow White and the Seven Dwarves
No, not on release. But it was the very first film I ever saw at the cinema so not a film a love but one that sticks in my mind due to this.
Day 02 - Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
It's just framed really well. River Phoenix does an absolutely great job of carrying enough of that recognisable Ford swagger and pulls off some of his quirks and expressions in a prequel scene that not only makes sense in terms of how Indiana would act as a child but also manages to explain Ford's chin scar, fear of snakes, acquisition of the whip, belief system around historical artifact preservation, relationship with his father, the films central plot point of the grail diary and getting his fedora in a moment that effortlessly then transitions mid-shot to Indy as an adult fighting in the storm with the same villain over the same artifact. Best opening of the franchise.

Day 3 - Vertigo
I remember watching loads of Hitchcock films back when they were released on VHS, and Vertigo kind of went under the radar. Then around a year or so later I started remembering it and couldn't stop thinking about it. I watched it again and it totally knocked me for a six. I just didn't get it that first watch. But all those layers ... the colours. Almost 30 minutes of no dialogue, just descending through the streets of SF, it's hypnotic. There's possibly Bernard Herrmann's finest score (never without a copy in the car). Kim Novak is perfect (even though she wasn't first choice). It's a perfect film.

(fave pre-1970 film)
It's a Wonderful Life is a beautiful, heart-warming film and Citizen Kane is fantastic, like a compilation of shots that look amazing, like Welles dug into the ground to make the camera as low as possible to make Kane look at tall and powerful as he could.
However, I'm going for 2001: A Space Odyssey, which continues to give, even to this day.
