Given the numbers of units out there it does make sense that this is what it would end up as and by proxy then effectively redundant for most. June definitely feels make or break for Sony's stance on the headset at this point

I may, of course, be wrong and they'll provide native PC support, but given this is going to need additional hardware for most PCs (lacking VirtualLink), and that this is unlikely to shift many headsets to PC owners given they have better options, the return isn't worth the extra engineering investment when most of the required software stack is already there and all you need is an interface layer to bridge the two ends.

Given the direction of travel, having a PSVR1/Quest 3 and getting there with the handful of exclusives I'm thinking that PSVR2 will be next to go from my household. Space for 3 headsets is limited anyway but it's very hard to see what use PSVR2 will get once the exclusives that are out already are finished off.

Production of the PlayStation VR2 headset has been halted, a new report claims, while Sony struggles to shift a growing…

Sony are reported to have put a halt on production due to a backlog of stock though the source site has prior with poor PSVR2 reporting

Yeah, IIRC isn't the main tech reporter at Bloomberg someone who seems to come down negatively a lot on VR? Even with Meta stuff.

It's this guy Mochizuki. He has a history of upsetting companies and fanboys by reporting on projected sales and manufacturing numbers going up and down, which then affects share prices. Whether he's making them up, as some have suggested, I have no idea.

But either way, would it really be a surprise if Sony scaled back on PSVR2 manufacturing? We already saw the numbers from Amazon US on the sales of PSVR2 over Christmas 2023, and the sales of Quest 2 and 3 in the same time frame. That should have been a key sales period and it's pretty easy to extrapolate from those to see that it's underperforming.

Wow, the Bloomberg article is littered with errors and is very strange in how its written, was this written by AI, do you think?

Sales of the $550 wearable accessory to the PlayStation 5 have slowed progressively since its launch and stocks of the device are building up, according to the people, who asked not to be named as the information is not public. Sony has produced well over 2 million units of the product launched in February of last year, the people said.
Call them SOURCES!!!!! I've never heard anyone refer to their sources as People?

It only takes into account units shipped to retailers and ignores that Sony were selling the unit directly for the first 8 months.

It says London studio where focused on making VR games for the PSVR2 before they were shut? Nope for some weird reason they were making a GASS game based on some fantasy London setting for PS5, they had no VR games announced at the time of closure.

Great news! For everyone, I guess, apart from the guys who were making homebrew software to do this

Yet to be official confirm, I'm still a little skeptical this is going to be how they do things as you're going to need a VirtualLink socket to make it work - which either means Sony needs to make one and maintain drivers, or you're on your own to buy one (or downgrade to a RTX 20XX series card) and Sony still need to maintain drivers; the adapters are not cheap.

Partly down to no one manufacturing them, but they were always pricey. Maybe there will be some cheap Chinese knock-offs, but these adapters need to be reasonably high quality as they have to carry power and data, and lots of dodgy USB-C cables about that aren't up-to-spec.

Interesting developments on the PSVR2 PC front, this dev has been working on getting the psvr2 working on pc seems to think that Sony will be bringing out an official dongle. They have created one themselves and got psvr running.

They're setting themselves up as an official outsource developer you can hire to take a regular videogame and make a VR version of it.
