“Psychonauts 2,” the sequel to Double Fine’s cult classic 3D platformer, does not have a release date officially announced as yet beyond a vague 2021 marker. However, Microsoft’s Xbox servers briefly allowed Game Pass players to download it in advance earlier today. As of now though, that ability is no longer there. The brief electronic […]

Psychonauts 2 briefly went up for preload suggesting MS is planning to drop it very soon

I doubt it, Epic has spent over a billion Dollars giving away free games and still its peak users sit around a third of what steam gets, these numbers are artificiality inflated by the free games and they cant keep pumping in money to try and take market share as its not working. Are Microsoft doing the free game stick too? nope so doing half of what epic are doing to try and entice people away from steam isn't really a solid strategy.

Ahhh, that's a bummer. But about what I expected.

As part of the ongoing Apple vs Epic trial Microsoft has confirmed that at no point in the existence of the Xbox business has its console hardware ever made a profit for the company. The point was raised to highlight why platform holders need a 30% software cut but mobile phone platforms do not.

Been saying this since day one, but the figures are always so far hidden in with Windows its been impossible to prove.

It's the Gillette model. Gillette make a profit from the sale of blades, not the little handle that holds the blades.
Consoles make a profit from the games and network access costs, not the console itself.

Good analogy! This is going to be an interesting case as it seems it's going to come down to the perception of what you own your phone for... i.e. It's purpose.

They were talking about consoles being specific use / function today versus PC, Phones and Tablets being multi-use. They were comparing iPhones to PCs as being multi-purpose and commenting on the iPod being a single purpose device.

They've got a point. If PC stands for personal computer I can't see any device currently available being more personal or more multi purpose than a smartphone.

Anyone know if the upcoming Phantasy Star 2: New Genesis will run on an Xbox Series S? Seeing lots of X mentions, but not S.

Still playing PSO on Dreamcast, this might be a big jump for me, buying the S primarily for this game!

If it says it's coming to Series X then it will definitely run on a Series S. There is no game exclusivity between the two consoles...

Thanks nonny, being a PS gamer, I've not followed the development of the Xbox console. Much appreciated.

No worries... Also as a heads up if you buy consoles directly from the Microsoft Store you can use gift cards and MS rewards. If you buy gift cards from places like CD Keys or Eneba you'd be able to shave some money off the total.

CD Keys charge £45.99 for £50 cards normally so you could get a Series S for £229.95 instead of £249.99 as an example.

Haha, yeah just remember you can earn gift card credit via Microsoft Rewards just by playing games on the console, using game pass and searching with bing on PC and mobile.

Essentially you can get around £15-20 a month easy through rewards and that can be used against both software and hardware through the store. It's a bit of a faff but it adds up over time ... Plus you can buy gift cards discounted as well.
