I'd like to revisit that one as well Atticus, hadn't realised it had come to UHD - a good opportunity to do so. I really liked it when it first came out, and think I watched it a couple of times around then, but haven't seen it since.

The only sequel I've seen is Saw 2, which was not good. It's the economy of the original Saw which makes it so satisfying IMO, and the sequel lost that (in favour of a lot more gore).

I don't think Saw is something I'd like to own and regularly rewatch, but definitely think it's due a revisit.
Apart from the car chase scene that costs 10p to make, it's a tense thriller that's not gore porn.
Like Psycho or Jaws, it ratchets up the tension so the horror elements seem so much more intense than something like Hostel, that just dives into the violence for the sake of it.

The sequel felt like a violent Big Brother episode and I lost interest after that.
Just looked - holy smokes! NINE films!

When Spiral came out, people were talking about this excellent transition in Saw IV, so I'll admit I'm intrigued.

I saw Oxygen (2021 via Netflix) and really enjoyed it.
I would say that it's subtitled and it drip-feeds the plot to you, interspersed with short bursts of action, all of which occur in a small hospital pod, so be prepped for that.

I thought it really good and yet another example of Netflix exploring some less-than-obvious choices that are well worth seeing alongside the ones that come out to great fanfare.

Yeah, that was pretty much my approach. Disc got a great review on hidefdigest https://ultrahd.highdefdigest.com/94...ahdbluray.html

Jeez, I watched it twice and did a double take both times

I quite enjoy the Saw sequels. They don't have what the original has and they definitely lean on the gore way too much and that's not my thing but they get stupidly complex to a very entertaining degree, each essentially reinterpreting all of the previous movies by showing you stuff that happened at the same time or just before or after scenes we saw. I remember one of them actually feeling remarkably clever (I don't know which one but I think it was around 3 or 4). And then a later one (maybe 5) is, at its core, a damning indictment of the US health insurance system and I actually thought that was pretty good.

The last one I saw though was really, really terrible. I can't remember which one it was but I think it was the last one made before this new one.

Sorry, youngster.
Still trying to wrap my head around this hi-def business!

Tremors 2. Not a good film, but I loved it. The final scene was epic.

Army of the Dead - The idea of this always appealed, great set-up, and I don't mind a bit of Snyder ... but I also know it hasn't been reviewing greatly so I went in with some caution. For the first hour I was having a great time and then the zoms came along and took the shine off a bit ... and @Dogg Thang summed up why. I wasn't expecting shufflebies, and I'm kind of used to fastbies, and I could maybe have tolerated the warriorbies, BUT they all behaved like they were in a musical, prancing around like a dance troupe or stage performers. So distracting.

Still, I did enjoy the set-up, the setting, Bautista was class, heli pilot was great (had no idea she was post-pasted in, wow) and all in all it was a nice way to switch off for two and a half hours of big budget mayhem. Just stop reinventing zoms. Paint some extras green and tear their clothes a bit. Job done.

Seed of Chucky - If Bride changed the direction of the series this one found a whole new path where no idea was too crazy or tasteless. Because of this it is entertaining in its own way but you still find yourself staring at the screen in disbelief at the story sometimes (lots of the time) and some of the cast too (rapper Redman as a sleazy movie maker version of himself). It's all a bit mental. The next two films in the series were apparently straight up horror again (and straight to dvd) ... will be watching those in the near future.

Yep, Seed is by far I'd say the weakest entry and likely why they veer away from it so quickly. The next one is very straight forward but I'd say a big uplift in quality for getting back to the basics. The seventh film is decent but not as strong as the sixth but still worth it as the upcoming TV series is a direct continuation of the storyline.

Demon Slayer: Mugen Train. Me and the lad just got back from watching it in an actual cinema and on the drive back decided we couldn't between us point to a single thing we liked about it. A bad film. Characters (or types) that try to endear by being the grating side of quirky, cheesily sentimental script with lots of lengthy monologues on self-doubt and regret awash with those gigantic anime tears you always get, dreary action/combat which basically involves calling out your attack move followed by a number ('Destructive Death #4!', 'Rising Inferno #2', that kind of thing). When the warriors crank up their effort they just call out the same move followed by a higher number, but you can't see any difference on screen. Jarring blend of rather stiff/generic hand animation and CGI which looked on a par with Grim Fandango. Also, the whole thing being set on a train does nothing for the variety of environments/adventure on offer. Utter horse****, boys and girls. Ignore the reviews (apart from this one) and the idiotic box office numbers in Japan.

The Unholy, adverts being rinsed for this at the minute, and it's largely fine, just fine. Script and exposition gets a bit swift and stupid towards the end, and there's not a single scare...not one. OK though, not worth seeking out. 2.5/5 skulls
